Maria's travel guide of Syros

Kini is, of course, one of my favorite places. That's why we decided to build our house there with the prospect of living in it permanently at some point in the future. I like to go to Kini beach especially when I have children with me or I need the shade that offer the trees or I am willing to lie down on a comfortable sun lounger in the organized part of the beach enjoying fine music. Most often I visit the beach in Delfini, which takes 10 minutes by car and I go to the rocks if I have a mood for nudging or exploring the sea. Otherwise, in days of laziness, I prefer the sandy beach and an ouzo in the Dioscouri bar. My most beloved beaches, however, are the northern isolated sandy crystal beaches such as Lia, Grammata, Aetos, Varvarousa. There is only one way to visit them. You have to go with Perla, a private boat that has daily routes and an amazing captain, my friend Lakis. In the afternoon I like to ride the pier and often end up in Marino's place for sweet or ice cream. If you are lovers of hiking like me, you can go at Delfini bay by walking the path from the pier or doing a nice walk from my home to Dani. I love Ermoupolis very much because it has a cosmopolitan aura. If you find yourself in the city, you will be amazed by the beauty of the Town Hall architecture that it has been desighed by Ernest Tchiller and it is visitable. A little further, you will see Apollo Opera House, which is a miniature of the Milan staircase. You will be lucky if you are given the opportunity to enjoy one of the many great performances that are given there. In Vaporia there is a bar called "Asteria". There ,you can have a snack or a cocktail with the view of the most aristocratic quarter of the city that reminds Venice and also dive to the blue water. It makes me feel excited when I see from the corner that the ship is on the line and so it is good to get out of the sea before the wave comes from the waves of the ship (me and my daughter have a lot of fun with it!). If I get late in Ermoupolis I love Mammo's wine bar. It has fine music, good wine and great cuisine. At the time of the summer meltemia it is better to go for a swim in the southern beaches, Agathopes, Komito, Ambela. The medieval part of Ano Syros with the Catholic monastery of Agios Georgios and the narrow alleyways is a nice afternoon walk. From there you can see Ermoupolis from above. There is also a mountainous area that I like to visit the village of San Michael. It has two good taverns with panoramic view of the surrounding islands. And to your surprise the island is incredibly beautiful in the autumn season too! It is then that he regains his serene everyday rhythms. I hope you enjoy your stay in Syros as I enjoy it too!
