The exhibition includes objects found in the ancient city and its cemeteries and covers the period from the 7th century BC till the 12th century AD. Its main objective is educational. Displayed mainly the everyday lives of ancient people of Avdira through the objects used by ordinary people in their daily occupations. The exhibition is structured thematically. Each section includes items from all periods of the city"s life arranged according to their use. Illustrative texts, photographs, drawings, maps and diagrams provide additional information to the visitor.
Archaeological Museum of Avdira
The exhibition includes objects found in the ancient city and its cemeteries and covers the period from the 7th century BC till the 12th century AD. Its main objective is educational. The municipal art gallery located in the corner Orpheus and Pindar. In a beautiful old mansion of the family Kalevra, where located in the Old Town of Xanthi, houses the Municipal Gallery. Mixing Ipirus and Macedonian architecture. Of particular interest appears the wooden ceilings.The Gallery hosts 52 paintings and two sculptures that adorn the halls of the permanent collection. And the name of the gallery Christos Pavlidis, great painter from Xanthi who gave remarkable number of
his paintings to the Gallery. Besides the permanent collection, have hosted and occasionally continues to host projects, painters, sculptors, hagiographers, photographers, and creating child projects.

Parks & Nature
The old canal who was transfering the water of Kosynthos river to the water reservoir for filtering and cleaning before the distribution in Xanthi's city water pipes. You can follow the path and you can see the old reservoir, which is now an art area, you can walk on and into the small cement canal and you can reach the old Damm where you can admire a wonderful nature. On the way, you can walk on the covered part of the canal, you will also walk into the canal, you will reach the river's level and walk across the river (so if it a hot day you can wet yourself with the clear river water).

What is more, it is stone-cobbled at its initial part, thanks to the workers on the railway.

It is one of the top 5 biotopes in Europe. Every Saturday, Xanthi is home to a huge, colorful bazaar with plenty of stalls selling anything you may need. It is the largest open-air market in all of Greece, and definitely worth a visit on your trip there.

The Ecclesiastical Museum of Holy Metropolis of Xanthi and Margin housed in the east wing of the Monastery of Panagia Archangeliotissa. Monastery is northeast of Xanthi. The museum"s collection was set up in the early decade of 60 by metropolitan of that time of Xanthi Anthonio. Exhibits of the museum are the collections of portable icons, silver utensils, manuscripts and printed liturgical books, but also from embroidered functional textiles and woodcrafts. The exhibits date from
the end of Byzantine period until the early 20th century and present a panorama of the history of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Art in Thrace area.

A miracle icon was founded on the banks of river Kosynthos which is housed in this monastery. The monastery is from the 11th century. Many handwritten artifacts were sent to Sofia, Bulgaria during various occupations. It is worth a visit to view this spiritual place.
