If you’re curious about the dishes Hungarian families ate in the ’70s and ’80s, visit the Kádár Étkezde on Klauzál tér. Charmingly simple and brilliant creations are served in a homely, friendly milieu. The floor and the tablecloths are chequered, the walls are adorned with old photographs, and the meat broth is just perfect. Since the eatery is in the Jewish Quarter, it also serves kosher dishes besides the traditional favourites.

This elegant observation point overlooks the undulating Buda Hills and many major Budapest landmarks, and is located just a short walk away from the Széchenyi Hill terminus of the Children’s Railway at the intersection of Széchenyi-emlék út and Rege út.
