According to the Myth, Kathmandu Valley was a lake. God Manjushree cut the hill in the south and drained the water, thus creating a very fertile valley for Human Settlement. The area where lotus grew was then developed as a major Buddhist pilgrimage. Swayambhu stupa was built.
Visitors can see the entire expanse of Kathmandu and the Himalayas in clear weather. It is a place one must visit.

Evening prayers are beautiful to watch. Also, you will see the cremation on the bank of Bagmati River. You will need to pay for entrance to visit this place.
