Los Angeles has a reputation of being a place you can't walk but Downtown Culver City is very pedestrian friendly. You can walk around and find dozens of my favorite restaurants, theaters and movie theaters here. Plus you get free 2 hour parking in the many city parking lots (more with Theater Validation). Last but not least, there is a wonderful farmers market on Tuesdays.

One of my favorite local restaurants. I often take my collaborators there for lunch. Jeanie Jackson and son, Bobby Johnson offer their brand of Memphis style barbeque. Their food is homemade and prepared with no MSG or other preservatives. The magic begins with the wood they choose to slow cook the meat: mesquite, white oak, and pecan. They use their custom blend dry rub to enhance the meat flavor. Slow cooking and quality are their secrets to food that soothe and satisfy the palate. Every mouthful is as TENDER AS MOTHER'S LOVE. http://jrs-bbq.com/index.php

Parks & Nature

This beautiful state park has many hikes but also some Olympic level mountain bike trails! It is only about a mile down the street from my place. I go there almost every morning to walk my dogs, and never get tired of the views and I continue to discover new paths. Like the Lily pads in the Japanese gardens. Free access except on weekends and holidays when it cost $7 per vehicle. There is a pedestrian entrance off of La Brea where it is always free. Lots of picnic tables too.

My favorite thing about this local simple little park is the starting point of The Ballona Creek Bike Path! This breathtakingly beautiful and easy bike path keeps you completely away from any traffic! It takes you for miles all the way to the beach. The Ballona Creek Bike Path starts at Syd Kronenthal Park in east Culver City and extends about 7 miles to the Coast Bike Path along the beach.

Shopping

Century City Mall is my new favorite mall in Los Angeles, my second would be the Grove. Recently remodeled it has great shops, theaters and restaurants. Check out Rock Sugar, that is such an amazing restaurant. You will thank me!
