At around three-hour drive from the coast, you can visit Durmitor mountain region in a day trip. Zabljak is a great place to visit if you’re looking for rustic charm, adventure and a place where you can enjoy the simple life. If you’re wondering if Durmitor or Black Lake is worth the trip just for a day, definitely yes! You will not have much time for hiking but you can drive to Djurdevica Tara Bridge, take some pictures, and see Tara Canyon, the second longest in the world after Grand Canyon.

Sightseeing

Positioned at the entrance of the Bay of Kotor, built on a series of terraces, Herceg Novi is positioned perfectly, with a view of the open sea and two peninsulas. It is often called a ‘city of the sun’, thanks to the large number of sunny days all year round. Thanks to the sailors who brought seeds from all over the world, exotic plants, trees and fruits has transformed Herceg Novi into a veritable botanic garden. Herceg Novi is also known as the Town of Writers. The list of famous writers for whom Herceg Novi was a muse is a long one, but to mention Ivo Andric (Noble prize for literature) whose private house is today the Writer's Club. Just below the uninspiring roadside frontage hides an appealing Old Town, rich in towers and churches, with sunny squares and a lively atmosphere. Herceg Novi is as attractive and interesting as any on the coast and rarely suffer from the overcrowding of the more popular tourist destinations. The city of Dubrovnik is 50km from Herceg Novi and there are regular bus lines.

The Bay of Kotor’s most famous town is Kotor itself. Located in the deepest part of the fjord, the city of Kotor is truely a pearl of the Adriatic Sea. The bay, the city of Kotor and the surrounding territory are a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kotor is 20-30 minutes away by car or there is a public bus which collects passengers just near the beach. This UNESCO protected medieval town is well known for its rich history, extraordinary architecture, numerous cultural and historic monuments, nautical tradition and the famous merchant navy. The Old Town is considered to be the best-preserved medieval walled town in the entire Mediterranean. Through the entire city the buildings are criss-crossed with narrow streets and squares. This means you immediately get lost but that’s part of the attraction as you never know what you might come across: a piazza full of restaurants, a church, antique shops, galleries, a doorway surrounded by colourful pots of flowers…There are many places to visit here like: St Tryphon’s Cathedral, clock tower, Rector’s Palace, Maritime Museum, St Ivan’s Castle and the Church of Our Lady of Health. Early in the morning before it get’s too hot, be sure to climb the city walls. These five-kilometre-long stone walls, built by the Venetians to protect the town from invaders, run right up into the steep hillside above the Kotor. To fully experience the Kotor and it’s Old Town, when the sun goes down, start out at the Wine Bar or some other friendly little locale. Try some local wines, like Vranac Pro Corde. The stone walls are illuminated at night providing a stunning sight. In the summer months you can find a lot of night-time entertainment with coffee shops, bars and restaurants.

Near Strp (3km), on the shores of the bay, there is small but picturesque town of Risan. In the ancient times, Risan was chosen by Illyrian Queen Teuta as her own capital, therefore, ancient Roman mosaics are well preserved here. Legends abound throughout the area, including one about tons of Queen Teuta's hidden gold and another about a lost city that lies beneath Risan's modern shores.
