You can do this walk from the front door in 3 hours round trip, and the views over the lake and to the fells all around are stunning.
I recommend walking along the lake shore via Friar's Crag and the new boardwalk, through Great Wood and steeply up past the tumbling beck of Cat Gill, onto the fell top and then back along the ridge towards Keswick and down into town via Springs Road.

A peaceful hamlet next to a tarn, with cafe and loos. The walk to get here is simply beautiful: past Ashness Bridge and Surprise View, through ancient woodland and along a gorgeous beck.

The classic introduction to fell walking. Take the Launch ferry across Derwentwater to get to the start. Or begin in the village of Grange. There is a steep climb but that's part of the fun! Stupendous views.

I almost want to keep this one a secret. It's a relatively short walk up from Grange or Rosthwaite, a very manageable fell with an interesting summit and beautiful views down the valley and across to the bigger fells all around.

Calfclose Bay
A short walk from Borrowdale House and a nice place to wander about by the lake.
Long pebbly shoreline easily accessible for paddleboards and canoes. Jump off the jetty into the lake. Gets the evening sun so good for summer picnic tea. Lovely sunsets over the water with fells in background. Please take care near/in water!

If you arrive late in the day, it's still light, and you want to catch a wonderful view over the lake and Keswick with minimum effort, pop up this little hill with its nice rocky top. Access from Springs Road, it's 20 mins stroll from Borrowdale House.

A very well run boat hire place with everything from kayaks to Dragon Boats, plus lots of useful and caring advice to ensure you have a fun and safe time on the lake. You can park at Mary Mount Hotel and cross the river, turn left along a path and you're there.
