IN BLACKVILLE (5 min) there is a lovely municipal park with a view of the river, tourist information centre, playground and splashpad for children, walking trails, and boat launch. For shopping there is a Foodland Grocery store, Home Hardware, and Pharmasave with a lovely gift shop. There is also the GBRC Thrift Store open Wed, Thurs, Friday with great second-hand bargains. If you are looking for fly-fishing and paddling equipment, or canoe rentals, visit Curtis Miramichi Outfitters near the Pharmasave. Three restaurants/take-outs are nearby: Blackville Trio Pizza, Nine Pine Lounge (also has a drive’thru for coffee and pastries) and Burke’s Diner. Find a sweet treat at Upriver Ice Cream. Tubing – If you are interested in river tubing there are two locations close by: Vicker’s Tubing and Gallan’s River Tubing. They are each only a 10 to 15 minute drive away.

There is also an antique shop just before you reach Doaktown - High Wheeler Antiques, open Wednesday to Sunday. Visit the Atlantic Salmon Museum, with many interesting displays, artifacts, a small aquarium, a beautiful gift shop, local tourist information and a view of the river. There are also restaurants, take-outs, ice cream, Tim Hortons, a grocery store, Dollar store and more in the area. Drive a little further towards Boiestown (Upper Miramichi) and discover the Priceville Footbridge, a swinging footbridge that goes over the Miramichi River. It is a beautiful and thrilling walk across the bridge. There is also an old covered bridge in the area that locals can direct you to. In Boiestown the Central NB Woodmen’s Museum (15 minute drive from Doaktown) has many exhibits and buildings to explore, a gift shop and tours aboard the miniature Whooper train. There is a large splash pad park across the road from it.
