Wildlife

When hiking & sightseeing in Rim Country, stay alert to the wildlife. In addition to stellar jays, crows, hawks, owls, ospreys & bald eagles, several common mammals are often spotted day & night. Raccoons, coatimundis, squirrels, chipmunks, skunks, javelinas (or peccaries), porcupines, bobcats, cougars, deer (both white tail & mule), elk & black bears are residents of the Rim. They most often avoid humans, but never approach them at any time, as they can become aggressive if feeling threatened. Timber rattlesnakes are sometimes seen, and although generally timid, keep your distance.
