The ultimate cheap eats for Tulum. If you came to Mexico with an appetite for the taco scene, this is it. As they say in Mexico, Bueno, Bonito, Barato.

Amazing pastries and light bites. Lines are usually long but well worth the wait. The almond croissants are to die for.

If getting all fancy is what you want, this is a great spot in the zona hotelera. Glitterati dancing to electronic music and turkish/greek food. Be ready for the bill, this one doesn't come cheap.

The closest colonial town to Tulum. Go to Calz de los Frailes to get your shopping on... Visit the famous pefumeria, Coqui Coqui. All of the vintage looking stuff you see littered around Tulum is courtesy of the thrift shop/ antique stores of this beautiful town. Bring a hat and wear light clothes. If you think Tulum is hot, Valladolid is EN FUEGOOOOO... Also one of the most iconic cenotes of the Yucatan is en route. Cenote Suytun

Sightseeing

A building that qualifies as art. When Tulum has long since gone, they will still write about this fantasy land. Best part is the gallery is free. Its a journey so be prepared. A sensorial experience.

Jungle meets untouched ruins that you can still climb. The last time I visited, we saw a Jaguar. Nature is insane. Spider Monkeys, Howler Monkeys, Eagles, Jabali, Venado, Wild Turkeys... the list goes on and on... This is long day but well worth it if you have the time. Most people stay in Bacalar and then make the rest of the journey across.

Cenote experiences

The magic of the Yucatan Peninsula is easy to spot at the local "natural pools". Each cenote is essentially a sinkhole that exposes the underground water system created when the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs turned the limestone bedrock into swiss cheese. The are innumerous places to visit, check with our front desk and we can make sure to give you the insider spots to stay away from the crowds but appreciate the nature.

Bring trainers

If you are headed to a jungle or inland excursion, don't wear flip flops. The local wildlife can ruin a vacation faster than you can say fire ants.

Transport

From town to the hotel or zona hotelera, you will need to take a cab. Always get the price before you enter the cab. And if in doubt, ask the taxi driver for the price list to make sure they aren't taking advantage of you. Once you are on the beach, the easiest way to move around is scooter or bike. Traffic can be a nightmare on the other side of Tulum. Plan to arrive early.
