The canteen at Mount Hawke (5 min drive)- don’t be fooled by the simple exterior of this old converted garage attached to the Londis shop! The most delicious coffees, pastries, brownies and breakfast and lunch offerings, often cooked over open fire.
Alternatively the canteen at the eco park in porthtowan - same vibe but an entirely vegan set up, a 2 min drive from the blue flag beach and porthtowan

St. Agnes is a thriving village situated in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and in the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site.
It offers access to lovely beaches and amazing coastal walks along the South West Coast Path.
The village itself boasts local shops including a butchers,green grocers,bakeries,two small supermarkets, a pharmacy, galleries, hairdressers and a beauty salon.
There is a wide range of restaurants, coffee shops and pubs, not forgetting a pizza take away and a fish and chip shop.
Wandering around the village and surrounding area is always fun and is steeped in its mining heritage. You will see old cottages, engine houses and shafts and it is worth walking along the coast path to see the remains of Wheal Coates which you may recognise from television programmes and epitomises the days of tin mining.
At one time there were 100 mines in the area and some were still working until the 20th century. Today only Blue Hills Mine remains in production. If you have time, a visit to the St Agnes Museum is interesting.

It is serviced by a council run car park on the right before you reach the junction. A small community owned car park nearer the beach - honesty box out of season manned in high season. But be warned this car park is tricky to negotiate in a large vehicle when busy. The driftwood spars pub also has a car park but requires ticket the cost of which can be reclaimed if you later eat there and ask.
Dog friendly year round.

Walking routes from the cottage
Walk up to ‘The Beacon’ from the village - the hill overlooking the village. This offers a 360 view of cornwall with views as far as St Ives, Padstow and the south coast. Approx 45-60 minute return.
Wheal Coates Mine - this iconic tin mine is featured in endless adverts for Cornwall (the Airbnb picture of the mine is one I took this year) - it is perched on the rugged cliffs between St Agnes Head and Chapelporth beach on the south west coast path. This can be walked to from the village and there are several National Trust car parks that access the coast path a short distance away. 90 mins

Beaches
Trevellas Porth is more secluded with limited access and dogs are allowed here all year round. It is a pleasant coastal walk to get there.
Chapel Porth is owned by the National Trust and there is a car park and cafe. This beach attracts surfers. Dogs are not allowed on the beach between Easter and 30th September inclusive.
Porthtowan Beach is also worth visiting especially with families. It is a blue flag beach with several cafes, a pub and fish and chip shop a 5 minute drive away. Dogs are not allowed between Easter and 30th September inclusive.
Perranporth Beach is a long sandy beach.
