Mill Mountain Star

Mill Mountain Park is one of the region’s most distinguished parks. Home to the famous Roanoke Star, Roanoke Parks and Recreation’s Discovery Center and Mill Mountain Zoo, Mill Mountain Park is a popular attraction for locals and tourists alike. Spanning 568 acres, the regional park is occasionally reserved for private events, including parties and weddings. Located beside the Blue Ridge Parkway, the park is easily accessible by road or trail.

Center in the Square houses five attractions including the Roanoke Pinball Museum, The Roanoke STARCADE, Harrison Museum of African American Culture, Kids Square, the Science Museum of Western Virginia with the Hidden Garden, and a live performance theatre with performances produced by Mill Mountain Theatre, Roanoke Ballet Theatre, and Opera Roanoke within our signature building in downtown Roanoke. Dragons Tooth

The Dragon's Tooth Trail is a rugged and rewarding hike. The trail offers incredible views of the area and an opportunity to see some of the unique geological features of Cove Mountain. The mountain is home to various outcrops of rock, and the "Dragon's Tooth" is a unique spire that projects 35 feet above the surrounding rock. The head of the trail also offers excellent views of many nearby and distant peaks. It's a rewarding climb that requires some skill and challenge to travel.

More than 11,200 acres of Carvins Cove Natural Reserve is protected by the largest conservation easement in Virginia’s history. Roanoke’s Carvins Cove is a vital piece of Virginia’s green infrastructure and also a source of fresh water. Rainfall drains from the natural reserve into the beautiful Carvins Cove reservoir. The reservoir’s water is treated and 10-million gallons of water is filtered each day for customers of the Western Virginia Water Authority, who manages the Cove’s boat dock and reservoir access.
