“The MAPR promotes knowledge and appreciation of Puerto Rico’s visual arts from the 17th century to the present. Its 130,000 sq. ft. of facilities combine a neoclassical structure dating from the 1920’s with a state-of-the-art modern building, set in unique tropical gardens. The MAPR has a top restaurant, a singular art products store, and houses a very interesting Puerto Rican art collection.”

“Built in 1634 to protect San Juan from land attacks, the San Cristóbal Fort is the largest Spanish fort in the Americas covering some 27 acres of land. At the beginning of the experience, you can watch a short film that explains the history of the fort and listen to an orientation offered by the staff every hour. Inside, you will find a main plaza used for troop formations and practices, a chapel, troop quarters, tunnels used by soldiers, artillery, and more. The observation post located in the third level gives you a beautiful ocean and city view.”

“Ballajá Barracks (or Cuartel de Ballajá in Spanish) is a military barracks located in Old San Juan, about a 15-minute walk from the 'Blue Room'. It was built around 1860 for the Spanish troops established on the island and their families. Today, the Ballajá Barracks houses several educational and cultural organizations, namely the Museo de Las Américas on the second floor of the building since 1992. On the first floor, there are music and dance schools and a library, among a variety of restaurants.”

History Museum

Trail
“Located at Arecibo, the Cueva del Indio is an area where the Taino Indians held tribal meetings and made numerous carvings in the walls of these natural limestone caves. To get to the impressive location there is a bit of a hike. Once you get through the trail, you will get to see multiple rock formations, in one of these formations lies the cave. To get to the cave there is a long wooden ladder at about 25 feet from the surface. Inside the cave you will be able to admire over 80 indigenous petroglyphs from our taino ancestors. these artifacts seem to date all the way back from 1200 to 1500 A.D. You will also be able to admire the beautiful ocean waves crashing on the rock formations. There is vast parking space and in the same location the attraction "Los siete arcos" is available. Please wear comfortable shoes. ”

“The Cathedral is one block away from the 'Blue Room'. It will be 500 years old in 2021! It's actually the second oldest church in the Western Hemisphere, and the oldest church on U.S. soil. At the cathedral, you can visit the tomb of Ponce de León, the Spanish conquistador who served as the first Governor or Puerto Rico, the mummy of St. Pio and beautiful stained glass windows. ”

“Like the Paseo de Princesa, seeing the city from its original city gate puts all in perspective. Originally people arrived in San Juan by water and the layout of the city makes the most sense when you relive that experience. Again-- sunset it a great time to visit”
