Oh Rothaus - if looks could kill:
Quirky aesthetics define the interior, the floor is rough, the chairs are few, the walls argue with one another leaving a lacunae worthy of Doctor Who. But the tea service is vintage, the milk jug handmade and the bathroom (real bath) is a tongue-in-cheek gold-encrusted blue.
This 2 bedroom workers cottage can be configured as two adjoined bedrooms, or bedroom with formal lounge, and features entrance as dining or living room, sunny eat in kitchen, laundry, bathroom, separate toilet and gardens with back and front verandahs.
The RHINO RHOOM a dedicated bedroom populated with rhino effigies, dominated by a deep plush mattress 4 luxury pillows, r.c. air conditioning and a gorgeous sun-drenched garden view.
It communicates via a lockable door onto...
The GALLERY ROOM, spacious 16sq metres with a generous daybed in sitting room mode converting to single or queen size bedroom features Morroccan wire work and colonial pressed tin decor. A changing exhibition of artwork on the walls turn this room into a pop-up gallery if ever bookings get too low.
The ART STUDIO (book separately) is really a shared space for working, it houses art materials, easels, tools and often works in progress. It is available as add-on at a budget rate for guests holding concurrent room bookings or during festival time and other special events i offer it with a single bed and bar fridge for a semi self contained short stay. Note: it is not automatically included with the whole house 2br offer.
GREENHAUS - the earth and you:
All new interior paint is Low VOC for your wellbeing. Solar panels augment grid power, gas for all things hot, and much as we aspire to passive thermal it is nigh on unachievable in a solid masonry colonial with original features like this. At least the air-con is 5 star rated and more passive solutions will be added as we can.
Natural cruelty-free organic products are supplied In the bathroom, kitchen and laundry along with natural vinegar, bicarb soda and recycled p.e.t. microfibre cleaning cloths. We expect you will want to use your own shampoos. Who Gives a Crap supply our paper products - each roll supporting clean water projects where its needed in the world. And we proudly support ethical locals, such as Hepburn Spa natural local mineral water.

Both rooms have their own internal security deadlock. There is also an artisan made recycled timber lockbox with self select combination code padlock to secure your things of value. The studio is a self contained space with its own private entry. The area is generally safe.
With your wholistic creative objectives in mind, we' ve left you some yoga mats, musical instruments, books, and information on art galleries and cultural events. Generous garden surroundings offer great picnic and reading spots, and these are cared for by a wonderful retired teacher and neighbour, Dianne. If you see her on her daily watering rounds she's also a great source of local information, (or gossip if you want to go there. Its a toggle tap tho, be advised.)
Pets can be accommodated in most cases but as 'pets' is a broad term we just ask you to discuss your animal companions with us and accept certain parameters, like picking up poos (Dianne is totes NOT a fan of doing this FOR you).
Breakfast is right across the road at Grists bakery - great coffee and pastries - but only until 3pm if your lucky and Never on Sunday. Our sunny kitchen includes microwave, coffee maker, toaster, full gas stove with oven, a wok, a huge Javanese mortar and pestle, and all the utensils you should need. Please note in funny old Castlemaine food ceases to be available in town after 8:15 except at the supermarket which mostly closes at 9pm so hit up the gorgeous wineries and food markets early for supplies if you are a night owl. More info on my fave places are on the info shelves - but check 'This Little Piggy' in Barker st for Asian supplies if you ever find it open!
There is a washing machine for your laundry. Just hang it out to dry on Australia's iconic Hill's Hoist out the back. An iron is provided and that yellow step stool is a depression era ironing board! We spurn the 50 cycles per second electroblanky and provide instead the wholesome therapeutic British Standard Hot WaterBottle for winter aches chills and loneliness.

I know you will love the community and values in historic Castlemaine and the special vibe at Redhaus Artist Cottage & studio. Zebronky the zebra donkey says "Come and stay!".
Castlemaine is a creative community loads of artists, hipster trendy tree-changers yet still with a small town feel. The locals are likely up early doing yoga, feeding animals, plying a building trade or commuting down to a Melbourne office job. But there is lots of community, social capital, grass roots ethical endeavours, art events including a state festival, and history preserved in this first iconic goldrush town. Australia's labour movement began here as did the fated expedition of colonial dumbfucks, Bourke & Wills. (Today we honour the traditional custodians and their elders past, present and emerging, and look forward to an age when we listen more closely to their sage advice!) Swim in the reservoir, try Henry's local cider. Artisan treats. Markets. Bookshops. Antique and Horsey business. Gold detectors and offroad cyclists rove the mineshaft-speckled bushlands in their respective uniforms, lol, oh and we're famous for vintage custom Hot Rods, tooth-cracking candy and bacon. An idiosyncratic mix.
