Very friendly rural village with a population of around 600. The village is in a Conservation Area and has many Listed Buildings. Formerly a copper mining area, and there is still evidence of the disused workings. St Michael's & All Angels Church is Norman and there are many famous people who have worshipped there, including the Backhouse family who founded Barclays Bank. The church is very popular for weddings and works closely with Middleton Lodge who offer great facilities for receptions.
There is a village primary school that has around 150 pupils. The Memorial Hall in the centre of the village is used by a wide number of organisations for club activities and events.
