Stay in the middle of everything! Historic loft overlooking the Hawksbill Creek & the Greenway walking trail. Centrally located to the Shenandoah River, National Park, Caverns, Brewery, Wine Bar and restaurants. The best Luray has to offer.
Our private second floor apartment is newly renovated with all modern conveniences: central AC, heat & gigabit WiFi.
We are family friendly + love dogs. Our goal is to provide a clean, safe, comfortable stay with access to a multitude of fun activities.
Who we are:
Hi! We travel often for work and stay in other Airbnb rentals around the world. From these experiences, we bought and renovated this historic 1928 building to include all the little details we expect (and are often missing in other places).
We are Airbnb SuperHosts with several listings and hope you'll read through our 5-star reviews to be confident in your booking.
The Shenandoah Valley is our home with Mountain Ranges on either side of the Valley and a gorgeous River running through it. Our goal is to improve the community and share the little known pleasures of our area. With its untouched natural resources and small town life, Luray is a secret gem close to Washington DC.
Our nightly price covers up to six guests. Kids are always welcome and we're very pet friendly (with prior approval). Just let us know who you're bringing so we can accommodate. Need the high chair, pack n' play or dog bowls? Let us know! If our Main Street apartment is booked, please check our other Airbnb listings.
Built in 1928, the Hawksbill is a solid brick building that has a long history as a downtown anchor (started as a Speakeasy).
The second floor apartment was used as living quarters for various shop keepers. Over a year's time, we gutted and modernized the space to build in some serious comfort. All the original, vintage oak floors and pine doors were salvaged and lovingly refinished.
You get the entire floor with a huge living room, separate dining room/bar, three bedrooms, and a newly renovated bathroom. Be aware that there is a stairway that you must climb to get into the apartment.
The apartment overlooks the Hawksbill Creek in the center of downtown. You are a block away from several restaurants and the Luray Greenway that's a perfect place to walk your dog, wear out the kids or meet your daily exercise goals.
This large sunny room is the place to hang out with family and friends on big couches and comfortable loungy chairs. Enjoy fast Wifi throughout the property. You can watch Netflix on the new 55" Sony flatscreen or connect to your streaming service subscription of choice.
For music, connect to our a bluetooth speaker system to play any music on your phone. Or disconnect and have fun playing board games and playing cards we provide.
Dining Room and Bar:
The large farm table seats six comfortably with room for two extra chairs. We're proud of the built-in bar where you can make coffee in the morning or fix drinks at night. There's a beer/ wine fridge along with different tools to experiment making cocktails.
Coffee. We love it! So we provide a couple different ways to make coffee. We have a Bonavita drip machine with a reusable, washable filer. Or you can use the large glass french press. We provide premium medium roast ground coffee, sugar (and non-sugar sweeteners), creamer. If you bring your own beans, there's a grinder provided. Enjoy a variety of different tea bags as well because tea is good too.
The apartment can sleep up to six people in three bedrooms, but also perfect for a couple who want a quiet getaway. We gladly provide all bed linens, towels and pillows.
Each bedroom is a separate room with a door that closes. The back bedroom has a Queen Bed with the best view of the creek. The second bedroom has a Queen Bed that comfortably sleeps two. The third bedroom has two adult bunk beds with Twin XL mattresses, hand built out of solid pine beams from an old, local barn.
Each bedroom can control its own LG split system for AC and heat. All windows have black out curtains so sleeping late is easy.
The bathroom has a tiled shower and Americast soaking tub. Enjoy strong water pressure and hot water. Plenty of space for everyone to store their toiletries. Bath and Beach towels are provided.
Though small (we like to think of it as European style), there's space and equipment to make a snack or cook a full Thanksgiving dinner. All new appliances, including a dishwasher, because who wants to hand wash dishes on vacation. Included are a blender, crock pot/slow cooker, pots, pans, dishes and all utensils.
If you need anything we don’t have, we'll do our best to accommodate. We provide a lot of "starter stuff" so guests don't have to over-buy for short stays (condiments, spices, cooking oil, bug repellent, etc).
Because you're probably traveling with enough stuff already, we do have a high chair, a Pak n' Play, and plastic eating dishes for small kids. Just let us know if there's an infant in your group so we can have everything ready for your arrival.
Luray is a quiet town and has no parking enforcement. All street parking is free and unmetered so you can park right in front of the apartment. There are also four free public lots within a block if needed. See the map we include in the listing photos. There is a free Level 2 charge for your electric car just two blocks away. It's rarely used so you could power overnight without issues.
Renewable Power and recycling:
We buy 100% renewable power from our local electric coop (SVEC), which buys the power from Stony Creek Wind Farm. We'll take care of your recycling when you use the bin in the apartment.
The Luray Greenway:
We're very lucky to have a progressive town that built a two mile walking trail along the Hawksbill Creek. You'll see locals walk their dogs in the morning or take their kids to play in the water. You can get on the trail almost right outside the apartment door.
The Caverns are just a mile away and are world famous since they were discovered over a century ago. The family who runs the Caverns have done a great job creating an inspiring, tasteful experience. It's a perfect place for an afternoon trip underground. There also plenty of other activities for kids like the giant maze and jungle gym. The Pioneer museum showcases demonstrations on how the first settlers in the area lived.
Shenandoah National Park:
We're only ten miles from the entrance to the Shenandoah National Park. You can buy a day or week pass into the park to drive the 110-mile Skyline Drive. Choose from the approximately 100 day hikes (of varying difficulty) that show off the Park's many waterfalls and vistas. We have booklets describing all the hikes. If you want to get 5 feet away from a deer, you'll be able to. It's fun to eat at Skyland on top of the mountain where you can see the all of Luray and Page County below.
Shenandoah River Outfitters:
A short drive out of town will bring you to the river outfitters where you can rent a canoe, kayak or tube for hanging out on the Shenandoah River. A must-do activity when the weather is nice. You'll never forget the times you spend on the river. If you have your own boat, you can use a number of public boat landings as well.
Since we're less than 5 miles to Khimaira and Faithbrook farms, we have many couples use our apartment as their homebase during their wedding adventure. The Mimslyn Inn is just several blocks away. In order to help you look your best, we have a full length mirror, iron and ironing board and lint rollers.
Small Town USA:
Luray is a quintessential small American town with a number of restaurants from fancy dining to burger joints. We provide a binder with maps of everything close by and are just a text away if you have questions.
Within walking distance, you can find Gathering Grounds, our local coffee shop. Or Uncle Bucks where all the locals go for a traditional diner experience. West Main Market is a gourmet deli with delicious handmade sandwiches. Moonshadows is our fancy restaurant when we want to treat ourselves to a fun evening meal. Several pizza places deliver to the apartment.
There's also The Valley Cork wine bar that's open Thurs-Sunday 4-10 to enjoy a local (or int'l) wine tasting. Hawksbill Brewery is special because they make all their own beer on site.
The indoor Willow Grove Farm Market sells locally produced vegetables, meat, and dairy all year long. For larger food needs, both Walmart and Food Lion are a short drive and open 24-hours a day.
A newly built hospital w/ a 24-hour emergency room is just 2 minutes away.
Jessica2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
