History Museum
“This is Berlin's Egyptian museum, as well a museum of both prehistory and early history. Displayed are not only artifacts but also testimonies of travelers and expeditions that allowed for the rediscovery of Ancient Egypt and lead to the phenomenon of 18th-century egyptomania that swept Europe. Most of the rooms are decorated in the style of Ancient Egyptian palaces and tombs, or with romantized scenes from its history painted in absolutely amazing frescos. Largely destroyed during the second world war, this 19th-century building has reopened not so many years ago, after a beautiful and intricate restoration process lead by David Chipperfield. Open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between 10:00 and 18:00. On Thursdays it is open from 10:00 to 20:00.”

History Museum
“A timeless monument to Jewish history and life in Germany, Daniel Libeskind's Berlin Jüdisches Museum is one of the world's undisputed museums and architectural gems. The museum is a stunning achievement in the architecture of cultural identity, a lasting expression of Jewish presence and dislocation and above all the attempt at integrating, physically and spiritually, the meaning of the Holocaust into the memory and consciousness of the city of Berlin. ”

“A lot of what the world knows about Germany revolves around the II World War, but Germany and the germanic lands that it comprised during its many phases in History have a lot more to teach us. Visit the entrance hall, enjoy the stairs and discover surprising views. The modern extension of the museum is by IM Pei.”

“Climbing up the dome and seeing the federal parliament at work is one of Berlin's most popular attractions. This is unfortunately not as convenient to access as it once was. It remains free but visitors need to book a few days in advance through the Bundestag website.”

Monument / Landmark
“Berlin's Siegessäule - Victory Column - is another of Berlin's monuments that has reinvented itself through the ages - from symbol of Prussian military victory in the 19th century to a favourite tourist spot today. As US Presidential candidate, Barack Obama chose the Siegessäule as the alternative spot to the Brandenburg Gate for his speech to 200,000 Berliners on July 24, 2008. ”

“Solar is an easy walk from Potsdamer Platz. This is a bar where the bouncer's job is to make you feel welcome and safe. Since it's on the top floors of a large building, the views of Berlin are beautiful. Solar is two story, the first floor is a restaurant, the second a bar.”

“At the intersection of Zimmerstraße and Friedrichstraße, Checkpoint Charlie is still an impressive reminder of Germany's most famous former border crossing and the time of the Cold War. Today the wall has disappeared and the watchtowers and barriers of the former military checkpoint have been replaced by replicas, which are amongst Berlin's most popular photo themes. Experience the whole history in the Wall Museum or take a fast Trabitour along the former course of the Wall.”

Plaza
“This charming and Bohemian time capsule of the neighborhood used to be a part of the historical village of Rixadorf. Walking through Richardplatz is bearing witness to the vestiges of antiquity. The oldest buildings in Neukölln are on or adjacent to Richardplatz. Many of the old village buildings like the church, the blacksmith, and the stein have been preserved and serve as an escape from the bustling cityscape. Richardplatz is a socially edifying focal point of Neukölln that acts as a talisman of history while also propelling itself into the future”

Bibliotek

Library
“For a selection of English books and media you can go a little further away, to Berlin's own American Memorial Library. You are free to enter and read a book without a library card - these are required only to rent the books. It is also a good spot to get some work done, as it is quiet. Open Mon - Sa, from 10:00 to 21:00.”
