Nærområdet

Covington, Kentucky, USA

It is located in a quiet tucked away now known area as Levassor Park, a neighborhood within Covington Kentucky. It was originally not even part of the city but was an area where wealthy people built large homes. One of those was known as the "Castle" and was located in the present site of Holmes High School. Another was created by Eugene Levassor in 1850 and is still standing on Levassor Place (within eyesight of this property). Many of the other homes built in the area are "Chicago bungalow", date from around the 1920's and early 30's.

Just a couple blocks down in the Wallace Woods Neighborhood found in 1815 and incorporated in 1834. Wallace Woods was developed from the Wallace family farm at the edge of what was then Covington around 1895. The Wallace property was divided, and over time developed in a variety of ways. Some smaller homes were built for workers engaged in constructing the neighborhood's larger homes, a few of which were built for wealthy Cincinnati mercantilist families. Wallace Woods contains a diversity of house styles and sizes, reflecting several architectural periods, including: Colonial Revival, Arts & Crafts, Italiante, and Victorian. In addition, many homes have elements of other styles including Romanesque. While homes in the neighborhood reflect the unique craftsmanship of their time, many have elaborate gardens which reflect the strong sense of pride and ownership among today's residents.

The neighborhood's residents, like their homes, also reflect diversity, and include the Bishop of the Diocese of Covington, nurses, doctors, educators, singles, families, retirees, college students, and new graduates. People are attracted to Wallace Woods by the unique character of the homes, its close proximity to downtown Cincinnati, as well as its active and vibrant neighborhood association.

The Wallace Woods Neighborhood Association has remained an active force, both politically and socially, for over 30 years. Through the association, residents established a 'good neighbor' scholarship fund for Covington high school graduates; put the "woods" back into Wallace Woods by purchasing and planting over 100 trees during the 1990s, and landscaped traffic islands and other key 'green spaces' in the local area including developing in conjunction with Housing Authority of Covington and the city's Parks & Recreation Department, a new park contains mosaic stepping stones at the corner of Madison & Sterrett Avenue. Recently the neighborhood bought community banners that are, thanks to the city's Public Works Department, prominently displayed on neighborhood streets. The Licking River Greenway path provides a varied walking and biking venue. And downtown Covington and Cincinnati are minutes away by bus, car or bike.

Mainstrasse Village, a designated as a national historic district, this 19th-century German neighborhood is a popular destination for visitors and locals alike as the village features unique shops & galleries, a variety of excellent restaurants, beer and bourbon pubs, and entertainment options for live music including rooftop Jazz, authentic Dixieland and more. Throughout the year, the village also hosts numerous popular festivals as well as gallery hops, holiday celebrations, pub crawls, antique markets, and more. The village is home to the Carroll Chimes Bell Tower, the Goose Girl Fountain, and numerous historical markers. Walking Tour maps are available online and parking is FREE. Numerous, eclectic dining options are available in and near the village including Cock & Bull English Pub, Dee Felice Cafe, Bouquet, Goodfella's Pizza, Zazou Grill & Pub, Paddy's, Old Kentucky Bourbon Bar OKKB, Cedar Brunch, and Bourbon Haus, The Village Pub, Rosie's Tavern, Bar 32, Gypsy's Bar, Larry's, Crafts & Vines - bottle shop, Otto's, and many others. For annual festivals, look for Mardi Gras (in February), Maifest (in May), Goettafest (in June), 4th Sunday Antique Shows (May-Oct), Classic Car Show & World's Longest Yard Sale (in August), Oktoberfest (in September), the Northern Kentucky Wine Festival (in October) and many holiday festivities in December. Also a beautiful view of the downtown Cincinnati Ohio Skyline and easy access to the riverfront on both sides of the river from this village.
