Catering to groups and families, the Shearers Quarters offers stunning views of Aotea Harbour, surrounded by lush green grass and natural beauty, you'll find it hard to leave this spot! The Shearers Quarters offers a home away from home, surrounded by breath taking sea views. Recently fully refurbished including disability shower and toilet, heat pump, ceiling & floor insulation, double glazed windows, BBQ, large entertainers decking with ramp access, fully carpeted & UV water filter system.

The Ookapu Station is approx 3000 hectre drystock sheep and beef station, on the shores of the pristine Aotea Harbour.

The Ookapu Station is part of the Ookapu F2 Trust, which is an Ahu Whenua Maori Land Trust. The Trust has approx 420 owners and is overseen by a board of Trustees who are made of one kaumatua(respected elder)advisor, two rangatahi (youth) reps, a financial account, farm consultant, lawyer and responsible Trustees. Trustees serve a three year term and are elected by the owners.
The Trust owns and manages the Ookapu Station. The Station is run by two full time farm employees, one of whom has been employed as the Farm Manager for the past 41yrs a great achievement to be noted. Casual staff is called upon when required. The hire of casual staff are primarily those who are owners and/or their children and grandchildren. This allows our people to be involved in the operations of the farm on their whenua (land) while at the same time, providing an income for them to help support themselves & their whaanau (family)

"Kohia te waihonga o te whenua ki roto i te kapu o too ringa kia ora ai te iwi
- Gather up the nectar of the land into the palms of the hands as nourishment for the health, wellbeing, and prosperity of the people"

This is the Vision Statement of the Ookapu F2 Trust Strategic Plan and showcases what the Ookapu F2 Trust board want to achieve, by utilising our assets for the health, wellbeing and prosperity of our whaanau(family)

The Shearers Quarters once stood in Turangi, where it was a ski lodge, it was transported to the Ookapu Station where it now stands, back in the early 1980s and was the shearing gangs main accommodation block while working at the Ookapu Station, a basic shell with little to no comforts of home, but offered the shearing gang a hot shower, comfortable beds and place to eat and relax after a long hard days work. The former set up of the Shearers Quarters had separate sleeping and toilet block for men and women.

The Shearers Quarters has recently undergone a major refurbishment programme over the past 18months and we’re now pleased to offer this revamped facility for your enjoyment and pleasure.

Kawhia, Waikato, New Zealand

Aotea Harbour -Aotea Moana is a settlement and smallest of three large natural inlets in the Tasman Sea coast of the Waikato region of New Zealand's North Island. It is located between Raglan Harbour to the north and Kaawhia Harbour to the south. Aotea is approx 30 kilometres southwest of Hamilton.

Offering stunning natural beauty, fishing, hot water beach( dig your own hotpool at Kaawhia ocean beach) and peaceful quiet surrounds. Aotea is the place to be!!

The nearby coastal village of Kaawhia (7kms and a short 10min drive) is a great fishing spot for holiday makers, with fishing tours available year-round. For much of the year, Kaawhia is a peaceful, quiet place, with an increase in beach-goers arriving over summer.

One of Kaawhia's claims to fame is the annual kai fest, attracting thousands to the usually quiet seaside village to taste and devour local delacies, traditional hangi. The other claim to fame that Kaawhia has is the hot water spring at Ocean Beach. At low tide, geothermally heated water bubbles up through the black sand – you can dig your own pool(take your own spade). To find the springs, drive to the end of Te Puia Road in kaawhia and walk over the dunes (dont' forget to pack a spade to dig your own hot pool) and in summer time, you'll need your jandels as the black sand can be very very hot for the soles of your bare feet!
