Welcome to North End House, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish, Cotswold holiday rentals.

North End House is a double fronted detached Cotswold stone property which sleeps eight guests, in four stylish bedrooms, with three beautifully presented bathrooms. Late Georgian in design, the property has an abundance of stunning features including high ceilings, sash windows, exposed Cotswold stone and open fireplaces, one of which has a cosy electric flame effect stove. Dating back to 1865, the property was once used as a regular meeting house for the village’s silk mill workers who lived in the terraced cottages further up the road.

Lovingly refurbished to a high standard, the owners have used different colour schemes throughout the house, varying from sleek and subtle whites and greys to the bold and striking shades of blue. Each of the rooms boast designer furniture and carefully chosen antique pieces and these have been complemented by modern facilities including wireless internet access, two Smart TVs and a well-equipped kitchen. At the front of the property there is a south facing enclosed garden and off-street parking is available for up to three cars.

North End House is situated in the historic village of Blockley, a peaceful village with two country pubs, a community owned shop & café, a children’s playground, impressive Norman church and the tranquil Blockley Brook. The brook once had 12 watermills lining its banks, bringing wealth to the area during the height of the wool industry and one of these mills is now Mill Dene Garden, a hidden gem which is open to the public and features a misty grotto, mill pond and gorgeous flowers in bloom. Surrounded by stunning countryside, Blockley has many delightful walks and cycle routes on its doorstep including footpaths over to the much-loved Chipping Campden, Paxford and Ebrington, the latter being home to The Ebrington Arms, an award-winning country pub which was voted the UK’s number one village pub by The Times in 2017.

Blockley is well-placed for exploring the many lovely towns and villages of the North Cotswolds including Stow-on-the-Wold, Broadway and Snowshill, home of the Cotswold Lavender Farm and Fields, a must-see attraction for visitors to the area between May and August. The region offers a range of tourist attractions for all ages including the Cotswold Motoring and Toy Museum in Bourton-on-the-Water, the fascinating Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe and the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway which takes a 28 mile round trip through scenic countryside. Further afield destinations such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Bath are also within easy reach for day trips.

Blockley, Cotswolds, Storbritannia

Blockley is a popular village in the Cotswolds which is found within a triangle formed by three renowned market towns: Chipping Campden to the North, Moreton-in-Marsh to the South East and Stow-on-the-Wold to the South. Being close to these three towns has led to increased footfall in the village, bringing with it good quality pubs and a lovely village shop/café.

As the village is away from main roads, it avoids the heavy tourist traffic and so visitors can get a real sense of rural life, enjoying the rolling countryside which falls within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The peaceful Blockley Brook attracts tourists and locals as a quiet place to relax in the warmer months. This brook, together with the other brook in the village, played a part in Blockley's history as there were once 12 water mills which provided work in various industries over the centuries, including silk production and flour milling.

Architecturally the village has quite a different character in comparison to the rest of the North Cotswolds as it has a more similar style to that of the villages in the Stroud valley, but here they have used a more golden stone. This design is reminiscent of wealthier times as the majority of the cottages were built during the 17th and 18th century, at the height of the industrial era.

A popular attraction in Blockley is Mill Dene Garden which is a partner garden of the Royal Horticultural Society. With a misty grotto, stream and seats around the mill pond, this is a lovely place to while away the time looking out for the kingfishers whilst enjoying a cream tea.

Food & Drink

For a relatively small village, Blockley is blessed with a number of places to eat and drink, all just a short walk from anywhere in the village.

The Crown Inn ( This 16th century country inn is situated in the heart of Blockley and features a restaurant serving dishes prepared with local produce, along with a bar with an open fire and a wide selection of real ales. This honey coloured historic inn is covered in Virginia creeper which turns a stunning red in Autumn. Walk inside to the scents of wood smoke from the open log fires and snuggle into a comfy chair by the fire, to view the daily papers with a coffee or something stronger. Dinner is served in the warm and friendly restaurant with lighter meals and snacks available in the bar.
The Great Western Arms ( The award winning Great Western Arms is the “Local” of Blockley. The “Western” as it is locally known, is a Hook Norton Brewery pub and is tenanted to Sharon Brace. It is right at the heart of the village both geographically and socially, and is where Sharon and her team serve up some of the finest food, drink and entertainment available. The pub has two rooms: one is used as the restaurant and the other houses a pool table, juke box and darts board (dogs are welcome in the pool room). The Pub has recently been extensively refurbished and now boasts 1st class facilities and comforts. The spacious lounge bar/restaurant retains its period "feel" but has been re-furnished and decorated with great taste and care. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and friendly.
Blockley Village Shop & Café ( The community owned shop and café is the hub of the village. The shop offers a wide range of basic groceries and necessities, and a tempting array of local products, including farm meat and free-range eggs, daily deliveries of local fruit and veg, freshly baked bread and locally made ready meals. Logs are generally stocked in winter. The licensed café is open all day, serving breakfasts, lunches, coffees and teas, and home-baked cakes. Take-away hot and cold food, including croissants, pastries and baguettes, is also very popular. The café, where free broadband is available, is a popular meeting place for locals and visitors of all ages.
