Classic charm meets modern beach breeziness at The Sand Dollar, a chic, second-story 1BR/1.5BA apartment in the heart of Gulfport’s vibrant Waterfront District.

With a parlor-style living space and private, tropical patio, there’s no shortage of spaces to relax. And you’ll do so in style: preserved Shaker touches and cool coastal décor offer the ideal blend of laid-back beach vibes and old-school Florida elegance.

Venture out and find yourself at the center of a vibrant community, where you’ll fill your days with farmer’s markets or music festivals. Spend afternoons in the surf and evenings at diverse waterfront restaurants. It’s all here in Gulfport, a funky little community tucked within St. Pete.

Wake up in a king-size bedroom with airy coastal accents to remind you that you’re on beach time. The en-suite master bath with a walk-in shower is great for refreshing for the day ahead or washing off the sand from your latest adventure.

Swing open the French doors to the living space, then grab a book or admire the treetop views from the cozy sofas. If you need a minute to check in with the real world, steal away to catch up on emails at the corner desk (free WiFi is also included).

Additional guests can use the main en-suite bathroom and convenient half-bath off the downstairs laundry room. A queen-size EZ bed is also available if you’re bringing a crew of four.

Suited for prepping everything from beach picnics to gourmet cuisine, the kitchen is equipped with a full suite of appliances and all the pots, pans, and dishes you’d find at home.

Shake a margarita and sip it in the upstairs sunroom, or prep feasts and share them in your private outdoor yard. This tropical-inspired space is draped by an enormous sail shade to keep afternoon gatherings cool—have a long lunch at the outdoor table, then recoup on the loungers or hammock.

Its own hidden hangout in the midst of the Waterfront District, the Sand Dollar offers low-key relaxation to balance out Gulfport’s energy and excitement.

We love its quaint charm as much as we love its proximity to fun and funky downtown, home to mouthwatering dining establishments, unique art galleries, and a full line-up of events. Visit during GeckoFest, a circus-inspired street event with chill tunes and can’t-miss costumes, or catch a bi-weekly ArtWalk.

For some time in the great outdoors, take your four-legged family member on a stroll to the dog park, or peddle your way down the Pinellas Bike Trail. The Sand Dollar is just a short trip from Stetson School of Law and Eckerd College, making it ideal for families making a visit to campus.

Central heat and air-conditioning.

Outdoors is a gas grill, Bistro table and chairs as well as Adirondak chairs for relaxing and an umbrella.

Also downstairs is the laundry room with a half bath and private, off-street parking for two cars.

Accommodations are upstairs, with the bottom space used only for storage and the laundry.

Location: Just one and a half blocks from Williams Pier and sunny Gulfport Beach, this lushly landscaped and lit property is private and quiet, yet ideally located in the heart of it all. Come and watch the dolphins play, or the egrets and herons fish. Listen to the call of seagulls or the wild green parrots that frequent the neighborhood.

Located just a short 2 blocks away are restaurants and shops, one of which even has the local post office inside! Gulfport's library is but a few blocks away and if you feel like shopping you can take the City bus service to Tyrone Mall. It stops just two blocks from The Sand Dollar. Try your hand (or feet!) at salsa or ballroom dancing at the converted Gulfport Casino. And still another attraction is Hickman's Theatre, with live plays. Regardless of the time of year you come to visit, you'll find something exciting and fun to do. Weekly farmer's market. Car recommended.

Golf, tennis, kayaking, swimming and biking are all easily accessible from The Sand Dollar. A perfect location for
your Florida vacation!

Gulfport, Florida, USA

Fantastically funky artsy beach neighborhood, perfect for walking, biking and enjoying excellent restaurants. Walk to the beach, to the historic Gulfport Casino (not a working Casino as Florida does not have gambling), waterfront restaurants, Gulfport's quirky shops, the library and the theater. Excellent restaurants for all tastes and budgets, some earning "best of the bay" awards. Live music many nights of the week.

I'm from Michigan, but I’ve lived in Texas and Arizona most of my adult life.

My interests are photography, travel, food, historical fiction.

What do I do in my spare time? I don't understand the question!?

Fun fact about me. We foster kittens until they’re ready for adoption. Our first batch was a mom with 7 kittens. And we utterly failed as fosters! We adopted 2 of the 7!

Some of my favorite things are: Bright colors (not to be confused with shiny, pretty things), chocolate, humor, great lines, magic moments, a beautiful beach, wide-open spaces, aerial views, Flat Whites, Meet Joe Black, Outlander series, U2, Yanni, Enigma, A Tuna Christmas, Houzz, New Zealand, Florida Gulf Coast, old European cities, photography, fields of bluebonnets, Pinterest.

My full-time job is overseeing the investments and financial operations at a 48-year old family foundation based in Austin. The foundation seeks innovative projects in the area of health, education, human services and community affairs.

What is it like to have me as a host? We are prepared and want our guests to be prepared as well. Once we send arrival details guests rarely have questions, but we’re here if you need us. We have a message tree set up so that requests go to 3 phone numbers to make sure we can respond as quickly as possible to a guest’s need. We also use an app that guests can access from their phone or computer to get info about the area and the home during their stay. We try to think of everything and have our homes set up for travelers. What am I like as a traveler? I like to be on my own and don’t require much interaction although I’d be happy to meet our hosts.

Do I have a life motto? I’m a big fan of big-picture dreams but not being married to them. Things change, people change and sometimes you just need to go in a different direction. I plan when necessary but I don’t plan everything. I’m fairly prepared most of the time – I’m always looking for another way if the first way doesn’t work out. I almost always have a “plan B” in my back pocket.

We take a team approach to managing and caring for our homes. We’ve had relationships with many of our service providers/team members for YEARS. They know we don’t want our guests going without air-conditioning on the 4th of July. They know we want yards mowed on schedule. They know we want our homes clean. We know you want more than a couple of forks and some plastic glasses in the kitchen! We know you want clean, fresh linens and household equipment that works.
