Our goal: to offer the gracious hospitality we envision Mary and Henry Horton had in mind when they built their home in 1869. Don’t hesitate to let us know how we can get closer to that goal for you!

The Air Room offers a private bedroom with en suite bathroom and use of common guest areas, including a pantry / kitchenette, dining room, living room, and wrap-around porch. Spacious interiors, large windows, and ample grounds are ideal for staying or working at home.

Stedet
The Horton House was built in 1869 for Mary and Henry Horton. We are fortunate so many of its original details remain as has the spirit of its gracious history. The grand porch, spacious interior, and grounds continue to invite a sense of the peaceful comfort of its beginnings infused with the energy of Providence's diverse Elmwood and nearby South Providence Neighborhoods of today.

The guest area of the Horton House is located in what would have been the Horton's family / entertaining part of the house. This area has our four guest rooms, a living room, dining room, and kitchenette. My family lives in a separate area of the house off of what was undoubtedly the servants' stairs.

Each guest room is inspired by one of the magical elements -- Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. The Air Room is located on the second floor along with the Fire and Water Rooms. The Earth Room is on the first floor. Every room has one designated parking spot on the property, with additional on-street parking available, as needed. Located on a corner, the double-lot provides ample grounds for outdoor use.

If you are traveling with an infant or toddler, we have a travel pack and play and a twin-sized foam mattress available. Please note that if you are traveling with a child, we can adjust your reservation to increase the guest count to 3 at no additional cost. My daughters LOVE when we are hosting a family with children (me, too!).

Nærområdet

Providence, Rhode Island, USA

The Horton House is located in Providence's Elmwood Historic District. Primarily farmland until the mid-19th century, the District now represents well-preserved neighborhoods developed between about 1850 and 1920 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Elmwood District is a residential enclave within an urban neighborhood. It is book-ended by two commercial streets: Elmwood Avenue (with direct bus routes to downtown in about 10 minutes) and Broad Street (with a newly installed bike line that travels the two miles to the edge of downtown, officially called DownCity). Broad and Elmwood host an array of ethnic restaurants, a grocery store, 24 hour Walgreens pharmacy, two of Farm Fresh Rhode Island's spring to fall farmers' markets, the Knight Memorial Public Library, Long Live Beerworks, Knead Donuts, and other conveniences. Check out our Guidebook for some additional information.

Located just over a mile walk/run/bike/drive heading away from DownCity is Roger Williams Park. The initial 102 acres of the Park was the last of the original land granted by Canonicus, chief of the Narragansett Tribe, to Roger Williams, the colonial founder of Rhode Island, in 1638. In 1872 (a few years after the Horton House was built), Roger Williams' great-great-great-granddaughter Betsey bequeathed the land to the people of Providence. The City then purchased additional land, and the Park was designed by Horace Cleveland. Today, the 435-acre Park is home to a zoo, botanical garden, natural history museum, gardens, seven lakes and more and hosts many events throughout the year.

While we continuously enhance what is readily available to guests (you'll find details in the House Manual on-line and in your room ), we know there are times when something will come to mind that you need or that will enhance your stay that is not at your finger tips. That's why we are here. Please ask. Advance notice is appreciated whenever possible given the joys (and demands) of work and family life. Thank you!
