Welcome to our stylish and very comfortable 2 bedroom (plus spacious mezzanine - with kingsize sofabed) holiday penthouse. We are located in the loft of the beautiful grade II listed water-driven corn mill, on the edge of the River Dart and opposite the working steam train station at Staverton, surrounded by lush rolling green countryside, the peaceful and romantic Dart estuary and breathtaking coastline with numerous beaches and towns are all within easy driving distance. Just idyllic!

The penthouse is accessed by steps to the 2nd floor, with a small shared ground floor lobby for muddy boots etc.
Once inside a hallway leads into the two bedrooms and family bathroom before opening up into the loft style living area, with open kitchen off.
The comfortable space incorporates a dining table with benches, large comfortable sofas and a modern well equipped galley kitchen area containing microwave, hob, oven, washing machine and dishwasher. Wifi, a smart TV, DVD and a bluetooth speaker are all available for your enjoyment.
The ensuite bathroom (shower & toilet) are off the bedroom with a daybed that can also be configured as twin beds or pushed together to form a superking double (with access from one side only - please see daybed in the photos). The second bedroom holds a very comfortable superking double and the mezzanine sofabed can be opened up to allow for a kingsize double bed (with additional mattress for comfort).

Outside there is a communal decking area and access to a private 'beach' - a small area where to can access the River Dart for a swim, a paddle or even to go out on a canoe! Opposite the entrance to the Mill is the South Devon Steam Railway - with the quiet Staverton Station accessed through the level crossing. The mesmerising steam train comes through a few times a day (see timetables) and can be boarded to get to Totnes or Buckfastleigh - a throw back to the days of the Railway Children and a wonderful sight to behold through the juliet balcony of the apartment as the train whistles into the station.
Parking is available for one car in our covered parking space, plus additional cars in either the free guest parking spaces , on the lane or across the railway line in the station car park.

The attractive market town of Totnes is about 3 miles away, the shopping attraction and beautiful estate at Dartington is just over a mile away and destinations such at Dartmouth, the Torbay area, Dartmoor, Agatha Christie's residence at Greenaway House, Salcombe and many other places are all within easy driving distance - or you can just cycle, walk, run or hike out of the front door to enjoy the considerable local walks in the Staverton area. Just up the road in the village is a reputable pub for food and refreshment, or you can drive to the highly acclaimed Cott Inn pub and restaurant for a meal to impress (booking recommended!)

All in all - out penthouse at Staverton Mill is a perfect base for your holiday in the South Hams. We know you will enjoy it as much as we do - it's our holiday place too!

Staverton is a small village (just up the lane from the Mill) with a church and a pub! The Mill is located opposite the working steam train station and so a classic ride on a steam train will take you into Totnes or Buckfastleigh if you prefer this relaxed way of travel to car! Totnes and Dartington are the closest shopping destinations (under 3 miles away) and both have a charming selection of shops and cafe's. We especially love the Dart River Estuary for its serenity (excellent walks with superb views) or popping into Dartmouth or Salcombe for a shopping trip and a great walk.e

We don't actually live locally but we have an excellent housekeeper who will prepare the penthouse apartment for you and can be available in case of emergency - access to the apartment is through a key safe on the premises. Easy!
