Beliggenhet

Bridgetown, Barbados, Barbados

Worthing Beach is the nearest beach, just across the main road by the traffic lights.

A very good beach nearby is Accra or Rockley Beach which is reached by turning right at the traffic lights onto the coast road and is approx ½ mile on the left opposite the Quayside shopping area, and Chefette fast food.. Tiki bar at the start of Accra offers you a beach lounger with umbrella for 30 BD$, but gives you tokens for that amount to spend at the bar or restaurant, it’s also a good bar

Worthing Beach stretches further and can be reached by turning left at the lights on to the coast road, and turn right down any of the roads between the hotels, they all lead to the beach!

There are loads of great beaches all round the island, which are ALL public and so you can use any of them (including Sandy Lane)

BARS,

There really are a lot of these so find your favourite, but here are a few of our recommendations close at hand

The newly renamed Blue Bench bar, the golf club bar, has Banks beer, a decent menu, good service, and,n season, often has live entertainment, quiz nights or karaoke. This is now run by the guys who run Ackee Tree at Hastings. The fish fry on Thursday is great value.

MoJo’s, right on the coast road between traffic lights and Accra beach; basic, good value food and great atmosphere at night.

Bubbas bar, is a very good American style sports bars at the start of Accra Beach opposite Champers restaurant. Typical American fare with tv screens showing sport everywhere

Carib Beach Bar on Worthing Beach which also does good food and has great atmosphere by the sea (bit more wary now, recently changed hands, again), so new owners so hope it will be back to its best, but round the corner is Crystal Waters whose Sunday barbeque is very lively, and good value. Very nice beach anyway

St Lawrence Gap, turn left at lights onto coast road and right after approx ¾ mile. Lots and lots of great bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Very lively at night, but parking at night can be tricky. About 30 minute walk from house.

Very good cocktail bar, the Cocktail Kitchen, on the corner on the Gap offers 2 for 1 cocktails from 5-7. You can watch the sunset from their roof bar.

RESTAURANTS

Again there are loads of restaurants. There is literature in the house listing many of them. Be aware that with the current exchange rate, prices can be high, especially for wine, which is often not good. It perhaps explains why the Bajans stick to rum and beer.

Just Grillin’. This is inexpensive and basic in the open air, but food is excellent especially the fresh fish. In parking lot at Quayside shopping Centre near Accra Beach.

Champers, opposite Bert’s Bar near Accra Beach. Excellent quality (as good as any on the island) but certainly not cheap. Fabulous setting above the crashing waves. If you are splashing out, this is worth considering.

Seahorse in St Lawrence gap is good for seafood and not silly expensive

Waterfront in Bridgetown on the quayside. Very pleasant and you can sit out on the quayside next to the boats. Good for jazz on Thursdays and Fridays. Medium priced

Oistins Fish Fry, takes place on Friday and Saturday night, where fresh fish, chicken etc is sold from open stalls. Fantastic atmosphere, Reggae music, dancing and fresh food. Go to Pats Place. Oistins is a mile or so further on from St Lawrence Gap on the coast road. It will be busy

Primo at St Lawrence Gap. Very good food right on the edge of the water in the Gap. Food and location superb, but you do pay for it. If you do go, try to get a table on the waterfront at sunset. Sister restaurant to Cin Cin, rated one of the finest restaurants on the island, up on the West coast

Brown Sugar, fantastic all you can eat Bajan buffet in restored Bajan house. Near Garrison Savannah. You need to book for Sundays.

Also well worth a visit for authentic and inexpensive Bajan food, is Sand Dunes bar and restaurant on the East coast above Barclays Park.

Shakers is a very good, inexpensive authentic bajan place just across from the far end of Golf Course Road, but you do need to book (highly recommended)

Atlantis on the East coast at Bathsheba offers medium priced authentic Bajan food in a lovely beachfront setting in what was a dilapidated building (now completely refurbished and very smart but still a lovely location). Buffets Wednesday and Friday lunch. Also in Bathsheba, The Roundhouse offers fabulous views and good food

The gospel breakfast on Sundays at The Crane is worth considering. A local gospel choir entertains you in the restaurant overlooking the spectacular beach whilst you tuck into a substantial buffet breakfast. If you do go, the earlier sitting is in the cliff top restaurant.

There are many other restaurants of all sorts all over the island. Those on the West Coast are well known but can be pricey.

If you are out and about, do try a Bajan rum shop, often not the most prepossessing surroundings, but always very friendly.
