COVID-19 SAFETY PRACTICES:

During these uncertain times, we’re making sure to follow all professional advice to ensure a safe stay for all our guests. What we’re doing:

*Wearing a mask when interacting in person with our guests
*Requesting all guests wear a mask or face covering when interacting in person with their host or cleaning staff and whenever they leave the privacy of their cottage (e.g. making use of the garden and other communal areas)
*Maintaining 6 feet/2 meters of distance at all times when interacting in person with our guests

*Following Airbnb’s 5 steps to enhanced cleaning in between guests - as per their cleaning handbook, which was developed in partnership with experts. These recommendations include ventilating the cottage before and during cleaning, using disinfectants approved for use against COVID-19, washing and disinfecting our hands and wearing a mask and gloves while cleaning, disinfecting all communal areas frequently, etc.

GENERAL INFO:

Built in the early 19th Century, this traditional Canarian cottage is located in the historic centre of Granadilla de Abona, a small village in the southern part of the island of Tenerife – just a few kilometres from the main tourist areas and only 11.2 kilometres from Tenerife South Airport (Aeropuerto Reina Sofia). Our location makes it perfect for you to enjoy both the buzz in the natural beaches of the southern part of the island (e.g. El Medano) and the solitude of El Teide National Park. Our cottage is very spacious and has been furnished to reflect traditional Canarian interiors.

This is ‘Cottage #2’ and it’s one of the 3 units that comprise ‘Casa Rural Patio del Naranjo’ (Orange Tree Cottages). The other two units are ‘Cottage #1’ and ‘Rooftop Apartment’.

Our cottages and apartment are ideal for couples, families, or groups of friends as you can enjoy quality time together in the large rooftop sunbathing terrace (with breathtaking panoramic views), or the barbecue/chill-out/reading area, or the beautiful courtyard. The cottages offer great versatility.

The cottages, courtyard, and other outdoor spaces are built to the back of my own residence: a large Canarian house where I’ve lived pretty much my entire life and raised my family.

You’ll be renting the entire Cottage #2. But, the outdoor spaces will be shared with Cottage #1 and Rooftop Apartment – should there be any guests staying in these at the time of your stay.

OPEN PLAN LIVING:

The cottage has a full kitchen fitted with all modern appliances (including a washing machine, a microwave oven, a hob, and a fridge freezer). It also has a coffee grinder and a cafetiere, a toaster and all the dishes, utensils, and kitchenware expected in today’s kitchens.

I always gift a welcome tray to guests. It contains some breakfast items, fruits, nuts, wine, etc. Additionally, spices, oil, vinegar, and other cupboard essentials are also found in the cottage’s pantry.

In the cosy lounge area you can enjoy a pleasant read or watch a selection of international satellite channels on its flat-screen full-HD TV. Wi-Fi is free to guests. Our unlimited high-speed broadband means you can stream your favourite shows! The cottage has a DVD player and a selection of DVDs. The lounge features a sofa bed, dining area (including a dining table, seating, and a highchair – upon request), and space heaters.

BATHROOM:

The bathroom features all modern fittings (including shower head over bathtub, basin and mirror, toilet, towel rack, and bidet). All towels are provided.

BEDROOM:

The bedroom has two king-sized beds and a cot (upon request), a large wardrobe, a dressing table, a space heater, and a table and an armchair. For extra sleeping arrangement, the lounge has a sofa bed (ideal for kids or for one adult or two adults who do not mind sharing a regular double bed).

COURTYARD:

Our cottages flank a big quintessentially-Canarian courtyard which is home to a garden bursting with flowers, bushes, and trees (including the ‘centrepiece’ that gives us our name: our beloved orange tree). The courtyard area is split into two levels, allowing for privacy for both cottages. There is also garden furniture (including tables and chairs) on each of the courtyard levels for each of the cottages.

OTHER OUTDOOR SPACES:

To the side of the courtyard there’s a stairway leading to two further levels. On level one, there’s a BBQ area (including a small dining table), a conservatory-style chill-out zone/reading room (with couches, a selection of books in English and German, games, etc.), and a secluded sunbathing patch behind the chill-out zone/reading room (with sun loungers). On level two, there’s a massive rooftop terrace (fitted with extra sun loungers and garden furniture), offering spectacular panoramic views of the whole village, the southern region of the island, and the Atlantic Ocean. On a clear day, Gran Canaria can be seen on the horizon. Bring your camera!

CLEANING / TOWELS / LINEN / MAID SERVICE:

Towels and linen are included and changed once a week. Additionally, the cottage is cleaned once a week – when you stay for more than 7 days. All free of charge. However, there's an overall cleaning fee of €30 per stay.

CHILDREN:

Children are welcomed. We have a highchair, a cot, and toys (all upon request). Ask prior to arrival.

SAFETY FEATURES:

There’s exterior lighting throughout the courtyard. Smoke detectors have been fitted in the open plan living space (kitchen/dining room/lounge). There are no carbon monoxide detectors because the cottage doesn’t have gas appliances – nor connection to garages. The fire extinguisher is in the hallway between the dining room area and the bedroom. There's an emergency light and clear emergency exit signs in the property showing you to the emergency exit (which is the main door to the outside of the building).

PARKING:

There’s plenty of free street parking right outside the cottage and it’s a very safe area.

UNIQUE BENEFITS:

Stay at this cottage for an authentic Canarian experience away from the overcrowded and tacky tourist areas. I have properties in other parts of the island, but I make Granadilla my permanent home. It’s quiet, quaint, friendly, and truly beautiful. It’s also easily accessible by car and public transport alike – having a great bus station with connections to all popular destinations (e.g. El Medano, Santa Cruz, Las Americas, etc.)

We’ve maintained the original architectural integrity of the cottage and the gardens are my pride and joy. I enjoy maintaining the grounds myself all year round and I encourage guests to partake in a bit of “horticultural therapy”!

We’re flexible regarding changeover days and arrival and departure times. Just let us know ahead of time.

Granadilla de Abona is one of the most beloved municipalities of Tenerife. The municipality extends from ‘Guajara’ (the second highest mountain on the island, after ‘El Teide’) to the Atlantic Ocean. Tenerife South Airport is located in this municipality, as well as the seaside village of El Medano (Spanish for ‘The Sand Dune’), where many important windsurfing competitions are held. La Montaña Roja (‘The Red Mountain’), a volcanic cone located in El Medano, has been declared protected natural reserve, along with five other ‘espacios naturales’, which together comprise 25% of the municipality’s geography.

OUR GRANADILLA FAVOURITES:

Tasca la Cantera > A ‘tasca’ is a tavern or bar, especially one serving food. Great Canarian and Spanish cuisine is served in this little gem of a restaurant, which is tucked away inside a cave, built into the side of a quarry, hence the name (‘cantera’ means quarry). Address: Calle la Cantera, 5-7. Distance from cottage: 10min walk.

Bodega Frontos > A Canarian winery that produces awesome wines (whites and reds) using grapes harvested in the Canary Islands. They do guided visits of the vineyard and wine tasting tours. They also have a great restaurant overlooking their vines! Address: Calle Lomo Grande, 1. Distance from cottage: 10min drive.

Molino de Gofio > Buy some gofio (Canarian roasted grain flour) at this local mill. It’s almost an
institution. Address: Plaza San Pedro, 7. Distance from cottage: Next door!

Coviran > There are little convenience stores dotted around. However, our favourite supermarket is Coviran. Open every day, from 8.30am to 9.30pm, this retailer is part of a large chain of supermarkets in the Canary Islands and has all the groceries you could wish for: from Spanish and Canarian products to international favourites. Address: TF-64, 33. Distance from cottage: 13min walk.

COAST/BEACH:

We strongly recommend you visit the seaside town of El Medano (11.5 kilometres from cottage), which boasts of having the largest natural beaches of Tenerife. If you’d rather have quiet beaches mostly popular with the locals and the opportunity to practice your favourite water sport then El Medano is the place for you.

NATIONAL PARK:

You simply cannot visit Tenerife and not take a trip up to El Teide National Park (30 kilometres from cottage). Named World Heritage Site in 2007, the National Park is the most famous landmark in the Canary Islands and there you can find El Teide, an active volcano (the highest mountain in Spain). Take a cable car to the top and enjoy the truly breathtaking views of the island of Tenerife and the other surrounding Canary Islands.

CAPITAL CITY:

Spend some time in Santa Cruz, the capital city. Located on the northeast coast, it’s a bustling city and shipping port (one of the busiest in Spain and deepest in the world). The enormous harbour holds many container ships, cruise liners, and inter-island jet foils and ferries. Situated in a large natural bay, it has a stunning backdrop of mountains (the Anaga Mountains) which are over 1,000 metres in height.
