Attracted by the natural beauty of the area, Augustus Saint-Gaudens drew over one hundred artists, sculptors, and writers – including Maxfield Parrish and Winston Churchill – to the Cornish Colony around 1885. The cottage was built in 1920 as an artist’s retreat, nestled in the woods and surrounded by fields.
