‘Waterside’ is a delightful, handsome stone building 60 seconds across the road from the beach in Helensburgh, and is directly opposite the former Queens Hotel, previously the base of Henry Bell, the inventor of ‘The Comet’, the first successful passenger carrying steamboat service in Europe. Embracing the nautical theme , our garden fence features original shipping rope sourced from The Waverley, the last seagoing passenger-carrying paddle steamer in the world.

Helensburgh is famous for being the birthplace of John Logie Baird, the inventor of Television. Other notable cultural figures who have visited Helensburgh include poet W.H. Auden and writer Oscar Wilde. The town has 3 train stations including a direct train service to Glasgow, Edinburgh and London (Caledonian Sleeper).

The Hill House , designed by legendary architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh , along with the beautiful Geilston Garden are two National Trust properties worth visiting in the area.

Helensburgh also offers a large selection of shops, restaurants and pubs and is close to nearby Loch Lomond (13 minutes drive) which serves as the Gateway To The Highlands. Also nearby (17 minutes drive) is the picturesque village of Luss, famous for being featured in the TV show Take The High Road , here you can enjoy scenic boat trips experiencing the natural beauty of Loch Lomond.

If you enjoy walking the West Highland Way, the John Muir Way and the Three Lochs Way are popular trails within the area.

Located a few minutes from Waterside is a local petrol station ( with convenience store & Cashline Machine ) open from 6am- Midnight.

We are only 25 minutes from Kilcreggan where you can catch a direct ferry to Gourock with links to Dunoon, Rothesay and other locations. If you want to discover the Clyde Estuary there are local marinas, sailing clubs and popular routes for kayaking.

Also nearby is Helensburgh’s creative digital hub, The Tower Digital Arts Centre, which screens all the latest movies and hosts regular events. Artists who have performed there include Jarvis Cocker, Ian Rankin, Alasdair Gray, Clare Grogan, Herbie Flowers , Jah Wobble and Stuart Murdoch from Belle & Sebastian.

Recently opened next to The Tower is the Scottish Submarine Centre. If you are a fan of The Beatles there are weekly screenings of their film Yellow Submarine which you can watch underneath a real submarine!

A few hundred yards from Waterside is a state of the art Gym with Fitness Classes/ Tennis /Squash courts. Day Passes available.
