Our thoughtfully equipped waterfront mini guesthouse is just steps away from our beachfront on the the magnificent west shore of Guemes Island. You can look forward to experiencing panoramic island views, miles of beach combing, beautiful sunsets and an abundance of wildlife. The mini guest house (measures 12’ x 14’) . It fully equipped to provide compact and efficient space to end an active day. For the safety of our guests and ourselves, we adhere strictly to CDC health guidelines.

Stedet
The living space includes a full size sleeper sofa with a memory foam mattress suitable for one or two guests. It is equipped for the preparation of simple, or "heat and serve" type, meals (no frying, please). Provided counter top appliances include a microwave, induction hot plate, Keurig coffee maker, electric hot water pot, pasta cooker, blender, toaster and a programmable crock pot. A hotel sized refrigerator is located under the counter, with a small freezer section that is large enough to fit a small pizza. A complete inventory of dishes, flatware, utensils, cookware, and pots & pans are included.

Our guests have the choice to prepare "heat and serve" meals in the kitchenette or cook their meals on the propane BBQ located on the entrance plaza to the mini guesthouse. Meals may be enjoyed either inside at the window bar or outdoors on the covered plaza's patio table & chairs.

The bathroom is fitted with a deep utility sink, a toilet, a shower, spare towels, toiletry items and a mirror encased in a beautiful leaded glass window. The deep sink was installed to enable washing dishes, with a pull out faucet head with spray and stream selections.

The leaded glass loft windows help make our mini guest house light and bright. However, if you'd prefer to avoid the early morning light, we provide night eye-masks to allow you to sleep in as long as you like.

There is parking space along side the mini guesthouse for our guest's use. Its proximity allows for convenient access to personal items stored in one’s vehicle. Floor and storage space in our guesthouse is limited, thus we suggest duffel bags or carry on size roller bags. If you have large or bulky luggage/suitcases, we have duffel bags for your use to transfer needed daily items.

When inside the mini guesthouse, WiFi coverage is typically good, but not always 100% perfect. There are board games, cards, and books for additional entertainment and enjoyment, along with a multi-height collapsible table. USB powered auxiliary speakers for your lap top PC are available upon request.

Anacortes has two large grocery stores, with the Guemes Island General Store offering limited grocery items and store hours. If you are unable to grocery shop prior to your arrival, we have available for purchase a few simple meal options. Please contact us and we will advise you what is available.

Public transportation is not available once you are on Guemes Island, thus you will need to have your own mode of transportation during your visit. Guemes Island is served by a small ferry operated by Skagit County. The terminal is located just a few blocks from downtown Anacortes on "I" and 6th street.

On-Island Dining and Entertainment: The Guemes Island General Store, known as "GIGS", is regarded as a destination place for good farm-fresh local food, wine, and craft beers on tap. "GIGS" is also a location to just enjoy meeting island locals and to listen to live music at one of the store's frequently scheduled events. You can enjoy the pleasure of dining at GIGS Tuesday – Sunday, while watching the boat traffic go by and the ferry come and go. Check for closure status due to covid-19.

If you are paddlers, you can launch your kayak right from our property for a great day of adventuring. Guemes is known as a bicycling destination due to its minimal traffic and scenic views. Our guests are welcome to use our two older, but well maintained and cared for, mountain bikes (& helmets). The use of these bikes require that our guests agree and understand that their use is solely at the guests own risk.

For those wishing to enjoy the breathtaking experience of whale watching, explore the other San Juan Islands, or join a kayak or bike tour, the "Seldom Inn" is a great base for doing so. Guemes Island's proximity to Anacortes and the San Juan Islands make it a convenient location to access these activities.

Gjestetilgang
With the mini guesthouse residing on our waterfront property, you are only footsteps to one of the most beautiful beaches around. You can enjoy beach combing or just relaxing in our Adirondack style beach chairs with a good book or to watch the sea life and marine traffic pass you by. For consideration of our neighbors, we ask that the beach be accessed only from our property and not from that of our neighbors. Once you are on the beach you are welcome fish from our shoreline, beach comb for agates, and shells, or just sit and enjoy the solitude of the surrounding beauty, the abundant wildlife, and the peaceful marine traffic.

Guests can also take in the breath taking views from the top of Guemes Mountain, which is accessed by a 1.2 mile hiking trail. There are two parks on the island, as well as Skagit Land Trust's "Yellow Bluff" property and the "Peach Tree Preserve", managed by San Juan Preservation Trust, to enjoy. There are public access points to virtually all beaches on Guemes; just be sure to use them when accessing the beach.

Guemes Island is served by a small ferry, operated by Skagit County. The terminal is located just a few blocks from downtown Anacortes, thus our guests often leave their vehicles at the Guemes Island terminal parking lot and walk-on the ferry to enjoy activities in Anacortes. Restaurants are within walking distance of the ferry.

Guests frequently choose to connect with the Washington State Ferry system for fun day trips to Lopez, Orcas and/or other San Juan Islands. You can take your car on the Guemes Ferry back over to Anacortes and drive on the WA State Ferry to explore these islands by car. Car reservations are recommended. Walking-on the WA State Ferry system is another great option for exploring the islands. Guests either leave their car on Guemes Island and take a taxi once in Anacortes to the WA State Ferry terminal, or drive themselves and park in the WA State Ferry parking lot.

Anacortes, Washington, USA

Guemes Island‘s rural character with its scenic waterfront views and beaches is an attraction to its 650 full time residents. The island is located across from the City of Anacortes and is accessed by the Skagit County ferry, the “Guemes”, with a short 7 minute ride across the Guemes Channel.

Attractions of the island include hiking the Guemes Mountain trail, cycling the quiet roads, playing tennis in one of two island parks, fishing, crabbing, fresh local food & frequent music events at the iconic Guemes Island Store/Restaurant, beach combing, and the enjoyment of the slow pace of island living. Bring your bikes, kayaks, tennis rackets, fishing rods, walking shoes, binoculars, and cameras to enjoy our unique and picturesque island.

Our guest house co-exists on the property with our waterfront home, where we reside full time. Our "Indian Village" neighborhood is made up predominantly of family summer cabins located on the beautiful western shore of Guemes Island. Our guests will be treated to spectacular 180 degrees panoramic views that include Cypress, Orcas, Sinclair, Fidalgo, Lummi, James, Decatur, and the Cone Islands, with stunning sunsets and abundant wildlife.

The downtown core of Anacortes provides restaurants, art galleries, various shops, a cinema, and the Saturday morning fresh farmer's market (farmer's market is seasonal), all within walking distance of the Guemes Island ferry terminal. Anacortes has two grocery stores to select from, with the on-island store providing limited groceries, wine, and beer. Thus we suggest you bring your food items of choice with you to the island, due to the limitations of the island store's hours and offerings.

The San Juan Island archipelago offers an abundance of wildlife and scenic sites. A main attraction in our area is whale watching (seasonal), providing memorable and breath-taking experiences. Whale watching excursions are available from multiple local companies, with options departing from Anacortes or the San Juan Islands. The "Seldom Inn" is a perfect base for whale watching, kayaking, biking and island exploration day trips!

We look forward to you joining us here on Guemes Island an to staying in the "Seldom Inn". Our goal is to attend to details to ensure your stay is as enjoyable as possible!

Greetings! We are Michael and JoAnne and have a passion for the sea and its beauty. We recently completed our intermittent offshore sailing adventure that began when we sailed out of Seattle in 1998 and recently ended in the South Pacific. Our profile picture is of us aboard our sailboat "Destiny" taken on our anniversary during New Zealand’s summer. In addition to our love for sailing, a primary reason we chose to adopt the sailing-cruising travel lifestyle is that it presented an unique opportunity to authentically engage with people outside our country and experience diverse cultures, lifestyles and mores that can't be as fully experienced as a tourist traveling by conventional means. Now that we have completed our sailing adventure, we have moved back to our waterfront home on Guemes Island full time. Living on our boat taught us a lot about maximizing livability in a small space. As a result, we set up our mini-guest house with efficiency in mind while still maximizing comfort and convenience. We look forward to meeting you and we will do our best to ensure your stay in our mini-guest house and your Guemes Island experience is most enjoyable. "Destiny is not a matter or chance, it is a matter of choice. It is not something to be waited for, it is something to be achieved" Williams Jennings Bryan
