The Ohia Hideaway is a 600 sqft 2 bed, 1 bath fully renovated home in Hawaiian Paradise Park on the Big Island of Hawai'i. We offer brand new appliances in a gorgeous kitchen, new memory foam king and full sized mattresses, cotton/linen sheets, wifi, workspace at the 7' island, bath and beach towels, toiletries, & more. Perfectly located on the east side of the island with quick access to a hidden beach hike, ocean cliffs, a new black sand beach, and Volcano National Park!

The Ohia Hideaway is the perfect spot for couples looking to get away, telecommuters looking for a quite place to work with ample opportunities to play, or even a small family on vacation.

On an acre of property surrounded by beautiful Ohia trees, our house is newly renovated to offer modern amenities in a more remote part of the tropical Big Island of Hawai'i. Guests will enjoy a new Memory Foam King and Full sized mattresses, a full kitchen with brand new top of the line appliances, and large 7' island.

For the hotter humid days, come home from your adventures snorkeling at the black sand beach, visiting the volcano, or sunbathing with sea turtles on Shipman Beach, and cool off with the AC while streaming your favorite Netflix shows on the HD 4k flatscreen (please see our request for AC use in the rules).

Hit up the Farmers Market down the road on Sunday for some incredible produce and cook up a storm in our top of the line, custom kitchen.

Telecommuting? Use our house as a quiet workspace with the doors and windows open to let the breeze flow through the house, and never be without a place to charge with ample outlets located throughout the house.

Please send a request if you are traveling with an infant (only to confirm if you are comfortable with sleeping arrangements) or if you would like to book more than 6 months in advance. We are pretty flexible, and it never hurts to ask!

This house is at the end of Hawaiian Paradise Park- close to the ocean cliffs and the secluded Shipman Beach Trailhead. Perfectly located in the between Hilo and Pahoa, our house is about 20min drive to Hilo, about 30-35 minutes to Volcano National Park (Kilauea), and about 30 minutes to the new black sand beach created this past year. On Sundays the biggest farmers market on the island (Maku'u Farmers Market) is just 10 minutes way.

Like 75% of the homes on the Big Island, our house is on a catchment system- a rain water collection tank. This water is to be used for hand washing, laundry, & bathing, but should NOT be used for drinking. Upon your arrival you will want to stop at the store and grab some water when you are in town. For extended stays, many stores offer larger jugs that can be refilled at many water filling stations (reverse osmosis) located at various gas stations and grocery stores (for cost), or the county water from spigots located at the Kea'au transfer station (free). If you would like more information on catchment systems, please let us know and we will be happy to provide resources.

There is no garbage pick-up on the island. Garbage will be removed at the end of your stay if you are staying for less than one week. Bugs are a part of life here in Hawai'i and they are very much attracted to garbage. To keep the bugs at bay, we ask that if you are staying a week or more, that you please transport your own garbage to the transfer station in Kea'au (located off of Hwy 130 traveling towards Hilo).

As a remote island in the middle of the pacific we practice and promote sustainability. We provide a trash can and a recycling can for you to recycle your bottles. Bottle recycling is available at the Kea'au transfer station if you wish to reclaim your deposits :-) Please try to keep your solid waste to a minimum, recycle as much paper, plastic, and cardboard as possible and conserve energy (Hawai'i has the highest electricity costs in the United States). This means although we provide an portable AC, we ask that you refrain from using it unless necessary. Please open the doors and windows and let the tropical trade winds blow through to cool things down.

For bookings over two weeks, an additional cleaning charges will be applied depending on the length of stay. For those staying a month or more, the option will be available to schedule cleaning during your stay as well. All arrangements will be agreed upon by both parties at time of booking.

Our house is located on the corner of a quite dead-end street. The house is on a 1-acre lot with empty lots all around providing good privacy. The ocean cliffs are a few blocks down the road, and access to the secluded Shipman Beach trailhead is 1-2 minutes (three streets down) by car. There are very few street lights on the island, and often no street lights at all in some of the outer subdivisions. Please know it will be very dark in the evening. If you arrive late, or are out late, please be sure to some light (phone, car lights, or pocket flashlight) to be able to see the lock on the front entry gate.
