Beautifully rustic beach house on gorgeous empty Takaungu Beach. Secluded, open plan. 25 mins south of Kilifi, 1 km from Takaungu village. Amazing location right on the Indian ocean. Sleeps 6, with a stunning roof terrace, 2 cooks/caretakers, solar powered, great sandy swimming beach. The best swimming on the 300m beach in a large clear sand bottom pool is right in front of us. Calm, relaxed, peaceful. A 'Lonely Planet must visit recommendation.' Check our latest pics on Insta #takashak

Stedet
Takashak is a rustic 3 bedroom beach house right on the beach. You can either rent the whole house or individual rooms and maybe share with others. See our other listings for details.

Family owned for 35 years, the house has been sympathetically improved over the years, whilst maintaining a simple beach house character. Light and power is provided by hurricane lamps and solar power.

You will be looked after by William and Nickson two local Giriama caretakers.

Takashak is very chilled. Get ready to slow down, read, switch your phone off, swim, snorkle, sun-bathe, eat fish straight from the sea, walk up the creek, walk along the beach at full moon, explore the ancient village of Takaungu.

William and Nickson can cook, do food preparation, wash the dishes, laundry and cleaning, bed-making etc.

There are 2 mountain bikes available for daily hire.

The last 20 metres of the private drive is a steep 4 wheel drive only hill. 2 wheel drive vehicles can be left at the top of the hill 30 metres from the house.

On arrival you'll be offered fresh coconut juice off our own coconut trees to revitalise you after your journey. Karibu!

Nærområdet

Takaungu, Kilifi, Kenya

Takashak lies on Takaungu beach, 400 metres of white Indian Ocean sand enjoyed by only 3 properties. Lush greenery provides privacy from the beach so that you can lie on the roof terrace overlooking the Indian Ocean just metres away.

Away from it all down 5 kms of dirt road off the Mombasa to Malindi main road, Takashak is secluded, peaceful, quiet and hidden away.

The regional centre Kilifi is a 25 minutes drive, the historic port of Mombasa 1 hour to the south, Watamu and Malindi an hour to the North.

Takaungu creek can be walked at low tide and takes you on a fascinating 20 minute walk to the Swahili Muslim village

The nearest village is Takaungu village, a 5 minute drive or 15 minute walk.

Takaungu beach is great for snorkelling at low tide when lots of pools are exposed. Takaungu creek makes a fascinating walk to the village and beyond as it narrows into mangroves. Keep an eye on the tide movements.

William used to be a canoe fisherman and he still has his dug out canoe so if you like to go fishing with him feel free to organise it when it suits you.

Explore Takaungu Village with its local shops, especially Mr Mohamed Ali's shop which is the main store where you can buy most basics. Mosques, wells, schools, a clinic, fish market, canoe ferry to north side of creek and friendly laid back locals.

Vuma Caves: 45 minute walk or 25 minutes by boda-boda from Takashak the open ocean crashes on to Vuma's spikey jagged rocks and caves. Experienced divers can venture into the water; there are caves and blow holes. Game fish can be seen from the rocks.

Kuruwitu Marine Reserve: a wonderful marine reserve, 20 minutes drive south, snorkle in clear water and see amazingly varied, beautiful corals and sea life. Expect to see turtles.

Zinj, in Takaungu village, a good quality expat run (by Amanda) leather goods manufacturer sells beaded sandals, bags, dog collars etc from a tastefully renovated old Swahili house in the village.

Vipingo Ridge Golf Resort within 30 minutes drive. This is a world class Clubhouse and 18 hole golf course built to USGA specifications.

Boating, yachting and dhow trips can be organised from Kilifi Boatyard and Mnarani boatyard, the latter offering PADI diving tuition, wake-boarding, water-skiing, windsurfing, dinghy sailing, deep sea diving, fishing and game fishing.

Wild Living Eco store at Kilifi Plantations (on main road) well worth a visit for eco products and beauty items.

Takashak is 1 km from Takaungu village, an ancient sleepy settlement at the head of a shallow creek, 25 minutes south of Kilifi, 1 hour south of Malindi and Watamu and 1 hour north of Mombasa.

Kilifi is a bustling but laid back town full of local expats and friendly locals. Lots of shops shut from 12-2pm but not the main ones. The huge bridge now links it easily with the area south of Kilifi creek and Mombasa. Kilifi is 25 minutes drive north of Takaungu and Takashak.

Nearest beach bar and restaurant is The Sands at Mandharini, a very cool spot (25 min drive) or Vipingo Beach Bar on a stunning beach. Nautilus is the best restaurant in Kilifi. Distant Relatives an eco backpackers is well worth a visit and very chilled.

If you're in to spas and beauty treatments Silver Palms Spa and Resort in Kilifi is amazing.

Kilifi Boatyard offers all boat servicing and repairs, a wonderful creek front setting with a sand floor bar looking down Kilifi creek and a bar and restaurant offering simple sea food, samosas, salads, cold beers. Saturday is the most popular day to visit.
