Unique, cosy thatched cottage, over 400 years old, Grade II listed. Built during the latter years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1.

3 Star rating (Visit England).

Located in the bustling village of Williton in coastal West Somerset,.

Full of character and antiquity, retaining original features including: exposed beams, large inglenook with gas powered log fire, bread oven, spiral stone-clad stairs to ancient door. Good standard of décor and cleanliness, fully and sensitively restored.

Whilst retaining its character, the cottage has all the mod-cons you need for a comfortable, relaxing retreat (including free wi-fi); it is warm and cosy during the winter and cool and airy in the summer. There is free roadside parking about 100 metres from the cottage and a large public car park in the village centre (close to the cottage). Unloading/loading space is available in the courtyard behind the cottage, accessed from the road.

It sleeps 4 people, with two bedrooms upstairs: one large king size with en suite shower room attached, and a second standard double.

The cottage has a downstairs bathroom with WC (and shower attachment over the bath) and separate utility room.

Up to two dogs are welcome, free of charge – and the area is full of well-signposted public footpaths and tracks where they can be exercised.

The cottage has a large and enclosed landscaped garden, providing total privacy - with natural pond, summerhouse and decking – creating a nature retreat for relaxing quality time, as well as a secure play area for children and dogs. Accessed via a private pathway approximately 25 metres from the rear of the cottage.

This is a prime location to explore West Somerset and North Devon. The cottage is 1½ miles from the sea and there are some beautiful, sandy (and safe) beaches a short drive away.

The cottage is in the centre of the attractive, bustling and vibrant village of Williton.
Village shops (selling local produce), as well as old pubs serving local ciders and beers, are only 150 yards away. Between Exmoor National Park and the Quantock Hills, Williton is 2 miles from the historic port of Watchet with its new marina. The village is only half an hour’s drive from the M5 motorway, exiting either at Taunton or Bridgwater, with the A39 running through it on towards Minehead.

The tranquil scenery of the Quantock and Brendon Hills, and the breathtaking valleys of Exmoor National Park (where the high land meets the sea), make it an ideal holiday for walkers and hikers. Outdoor pursuits of fishing, golf, horse-riding, walking, fishing and sailing are only a short drive.

Attractions in the immediate area include: Dunster Castle and medieval village (National Trust), West Somerset Steam Railway (with Williton Station lower down the street), Cleve Abbey (English Heritage), Minehead, Porlock, Lynton and Lynmouth etc.

I live within Exmoor National Park in the village of Porlock, with my husband and Labrador, running a 4 star "bed and breakfast" for visitors to the area. It is very popular with walkers (many of whom stay with us on their South West Coast Path adventure and along The Coleridge Way route). Separately, we have a 400 year old thatched cottage in Williton (a village nestling in the Quantock Hills, 13 miles from Porlock) which is Grade II listed and used for holiday lets. Although the B&B and holiday cottage are time consuming and often a challenging commitment, I find this compensated for by the positive response of so many of our guests.
