My place is a log cabin on a half-acre of grass, trees, flowers, and gardens 5 minutes from downtown and 15 from UI by car or bike. When it was built in 1940, it was surrounded by similar properties. Now it is an old-fashioned oasis of space and green with new apartments and thriving businesses for neighbors. I have a dog and there are inherent risks due to steps, stairs, and other things. Please see Other Things to Note.

Stedet
The guest bedroom that is listed is in the center of the main floor, a small but well-lit room with a window. It has a wool rug on a wood floor. The bed is a twin bed. The room contains what remains of my library, mostly US history and literature. The bathroom is right next to this room. It is large, with a huge bathtub. The shower was added over the tub, so you have to step into the tub to take a shower. This arrangement is risky for a person who isn't agile. You may choose to stay in the large bedroom upstairs and have more space and privacy, but there is no bathroom upstairs, so you have to go up and down a steep flight of stairs. The upstairs room isn't listed because I don't want more than one registered guest at a time. However, I can accommodate two people by putting another twin mattress on the floor of the bedroom upstairs; the extra person will pay me personally $15 per night. My house is eclectically furnished: my grandfather was a well known landscape artist in Denver and his oil paintings grace the walls. I have a small collection of art and crafts from China, Chile, Mexico, and New Mexico.

Gjestetilgang
Guests have access to all the common spaces, which is everything except our own bedrooms. Our paths will cross in the common space (this is my home). The kitchen/living/eating area is one big room, cabin style. You can cook, work at the table, hang out on the couch. There's no TV. One big bedroom upstairs has been turned into a yoga/workout room. The front porch has a couch, table, and chairs, and in the summer, is another room. One side yard is a shady retreat in the summer. The back yard is a sunny grass-covered hillside with garden areas and trees. Park in my driveway, not on the street.

Andre ting det er verdt å merke seg
Wear a mask when we are chatting and wash your hands when you come back from anyplace. I will generally leave the entire downstairs to you. My Chilean partner normally spends summers with me; 2020 he couldn't come, but is planning to be here in 2021. He is very friendly and you can practice your Spanish. I also have a very friendly Ausssie dog. If you are very tall or large, you won't be comfortable in the beds because all are twin beds. If you have trouble getting around, my cabin is not the safest place for you. My cabin (and property) is in much better shape now than when I bought it in 1976. But still it is a cabin, not the Best Western. I ask you to evaluate my place based on what it is, not what it isn't: a comfortable, homey, spacious, attractive, convenient, and superior value place that feels like a refuge. I have had wonderful guests and look forward to meeting you.

Beliggenhet

Moskva, Idaho, USA

West Morton is a dead-end dirt road one block long. Nearby buildings include an apartment house, a carpentry shop, an electrical contractor, and a spring water supplier. There's business traffic during the day, and you can hear traffic on highway 95 if you are outside, but it's quiet after 5 and on weekends. A grocery store, natural food store, drug stores, bars, and various eating options are minutes away. You can walk downtown as fast as you can drive and park.

I worked part-time at the Moscow Food Coop from 2006 until 2019; previously I taught English in Chile and was a teacher, editor, and writer at UIdaho and WSU. I have lived in Moscow (and in this cabin) since 1976, except for time working in other places and traveling. When I was younger, I did a lot of cycling--last long trip was in Patagonia. I hike and backpack, take gym classes. I read a lot (US history, Spanish novels) and walk my dog, Baracka Bama. I support Citizens Climate Lobby and environmental organizations. I volunteer for Moscow Food Co-op recycling plastic and as an usher for the Washington-Idaho Symphony. I am a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church. I have two sons and three grandchildren. I was born in New Mexico, which had a strong influence on my values. I have a MA in US history. The photo is 10 years old; will update soon.

You will get personal attention as a guest. I'll fix you coffee and breakfast in the morning. I'm always interested in my guests' lives. One of my regular activities is walking my dog, frequently on Moscow Mountain and other wooded ridges in the area. I am always happy to include you on these hikes. And give you a tour around town. I've lived in Moscow since 1976.
