Stedet
A private valley in the heart of the bustling coastal village of Tutukaka, legend has it that this was the resting place of the voyaging canoes. With a fresh spring in the valley, and a natural sun trap, it certainly has plenty of good energy.

The Lodge listing is for one room only, Lodge9 has 6 rooms in total. Each price is per room.

Lodge9 made use of the Tutukaka Marina upgrade, up-cycling the salvaged wooden board walks, and original bollards and marker poles, to create a groovy courtyard space, with lush tropical greenery along with a saltwater pool and cedar sauna.

Inside Lodge9 the energy translates to a calm relaxing space with bespoke furnishings, original artworks from local artists, including Shane Hansen, Steve Moase, Paul DuFlou and an incredible hallway entrance piece by Emily Karaka.

Six private rooms, with a communal shared space, three double doors opening into the courtyard, it is a resort style retreat that balances the modern whilst acknowledging the past.
Nespresso machines throughout, filtered natural spring water on tap in each room, and to enhance the natural calm, chemicals have never been used in the clean and upkeep – so it is a completely organic zone.

With a massive attention to detail the handmade pottery for Lodge9 by Akke Tiemersma is in daily use, served with the gourmet continental breakfast.

An amazing floor to ceiling fireplace makes this an intimate space that takes luxury, and makes it homely.

Gjestetilgang
The courtyard, sauna, and pool area are all your to use.
There is a Les Mills affiliated gym about a two minute walk from Lodge9, and there is a nominal fee to use it, and the classes, and I can put you in touch with Esther who runs it.

Andre ting det er verdt å merke seg
Housekeeping
We offer a mini service every day to your room, and linen will be replaced every third day. We will change the towels if you leave them inside the shower, but the heated towel rail can keep the towels you use warm and dry for at least a second use – the switch is by the heated mirror above the powerpoint.
Please be mindful of your water use. We are on a bore system, and also rely on rainfall. Please try to conserve as much as you can.

There have never been any harsh cleaning chemicals used since Lodge9 opened on Christmas Day 2016. We use organic cleaning products, oils, and essence, hot water and micro fibre cloths, and good old fashioned elbow grease. Kinda proud of that! All products are ecostore, a local company with an international reputation for producing environmentally friendly cleaning products. We even wash the towels and linen with organic ecostore powder and fabric softener.

Air Conditioning
At Lodge9 we are committed to conserving energy and caring for our precious environment. To ensure this, the heat pumps / air con units are programmed to switch off between 9am and 2 pm daily. Should you wish to keep the unit turned on, simply press the ON button in the control panel in your room.

Fireplace
The fireplace has a remote that can control the flame and the temperature. The fan blows warm air throughout the lounge and heats up nice and quickly. Nothing like sitting in front of a live fire!

Wireless Internet & Smart Stuff
Wireless is available thoughout the Lodge9 area free of charge. A printing and scanning service is available at our reception inside Dive! Tutukaka.

There is a Lodge9 Spotify account to select some chill tunes and we also have a Lodge9 Netflix – so you can catch up on Suits or House of Cards….or you can jump into your own.

The digital alarm clocks in your room are unplugged – we have found that the time zone is different in our valley….should you wish to set an alarm please do so, and the groovy little thing is also able to charge with a USB port, as well as acting as a Bluetooth speaker for your portable devices. So you can chill quietly to your own tunes in your room.

Smoking
Our Lodge rooms, as well as the inside of the Lodge, are designated non-smoking. The Fire Alarm will sound if there is smoking in the rooms, and a fee will be charged if the local fire brigade are called out for a false alarm. If the fire alarm sounds, please muster in the carpark at the beginning of the valley, beside the Dive! Tutukaka shop and reception. If you do smoke, please be outside, and use the sand buckets for your butts. It would be appreciated by the other guests if you would stand well away from the open lounge doors and windows to indulge in your wee habit.

Pool
The pool is salt-water, and pool towels are at the Lodge9 balcony in the courtyard, at the hill end, where there are also two toilets. Please don’t take the towels to the beach – the sand gets into every nook and cranny in our washing machines….. There is also a toilet up and outdoor shower at the pool area, as well as a sauna. We ask that you don’t use the pool after 10pm, and no swimming after drinking too much alcohol, for obvious reasons. Please try to not walk inside all wet – and dry off first.

The sauna is yours to use, and the wee bucket of water is great, and if you can fill it with the hose by the fresh water shower if it gets empty. The pool salt water is not good for our elements and hot rocks.

Beliggenhet

Tutukaka, Northland, New Zealand

Local Eateries & Services
There are four bars and restaurants on Marina Road inside Tutukaka – all within walking distance. We suggest an evening stroll, from one end to the other and look over the boats in the marina, keeping an eye out for sting rays too.

Starting from one end of Marina Road, we have the colourful hotel with retail shops, art gallery and behind them is the Tutukaka Store for your general supplies: a grocery store, petrol station, and liquor sales. Underneath Oceans Hotel is a restaurant called Wahi – they serve tasting platters and are delicious.

We recommend Schnappa Rock Restaurant for hot breakfasts and dinners, reservations are absolutely recommended here for dinner, (but walk in for casual dining ). They are the establishment at the beginning of our Valley.

The Game Club has a deck with burgers and beers over the water, and a The Galley serves up great food.

The Marina Pizza Bar and Grill is further along serving pizza and main meals.….so you can see we are a small coastal village – but well watered!

If you are popping out for the night, make sure you have your key.

We have some jaw dropping beaches in the area, and there are some Walkways Brochures and maps that will guide you. Just ask me and I can tell you some secret spots.

Whale Bay, Matapouri, and Sandy's are pretty famous, but still not crowded.

There are snorkel tours, stand up paddle boarding, surf lessons, a beauty salon, dive trips, masseurs, acupuncture, artist galleries, and so much more in Tutukaka and Ngunguru.

I can tell you how to say the place names properly. x
