Meet near Vancouver's most famous foodie hub, Granville Island (I live right across the street). It's about more than the Public Market: I'll give you an insider look behind the scenes at a top craft distillery on the island (one of B.C.'s first), and guide you through a tasting of what's made there (including gin, white whisky, whisky and liqueurs). Then we'll hop onto one of Vancouver's charming water taxis to visit the trendy Yaletown neighbourhood, where old warehouses and factories house indie shops and hip lofts—plus a cool brewery-distillery. We'll taste their spirits, then hop back on the water taxi to flex our new pro-level spirits knowledge to visit our final destination: depending on the way, we'll either taste a range of award-winning made-in-B.C. small-batch spirits (cucumber gin, lemongrass vodka, aquavit, amaro...) OR we'll visit a craft cocktail bar and the top private spirits boutique for BC craft bottles. You'll be snapping photos of kayakers and paddleboarders, boaters (plus ducks and geese!) as we traverse the city by water taxi. We'll nod towards what was once the world's largest cooperage (barrel manufacturing facility) as we sail by, right on Vancouver's False Creek, and talk about the spirited history of the city while we travel between distilleries.
I am a top SWE certified spirits journalist and WSET spirits educator (and trained artisan distiller!) who specializes in B.C. small-batch spirits: I love to taste them, share them, mix them into cocktails and meet the people who make them! B.C. has more independent distilleries than any province in Canada, and I am your front-of-the-line guide to our hot craft spirit scene. I am the lead judge of the Canadian Artisan Spirit Competition and also a travel, food and drinks writer who has visited more than 55 countries—including distilleries, wineries and breweries all over the world. An editor at Food & Drink (the in-store magazine of liquor stores in Ontario, Canada), I also write for Taste, Sharp, The Alchemist, The Globe and Mail newspaper, Air Canada's enRoute and many local and international publications.
