On 20 acres of grassland in Arizona's Prescott Valley, a herd of Huacaya alpacas peacefully grazes and frolics in the sun. Brian and Valerie, the owners and caretakers at Plum Creek Alpacas, preside over this pastoral scene, giving these fluffy animals their undivided love and one-on-one attention. In this way, they're realizing their dreams of raising an elite herd of colored alpacas.

As a fiber artist, I was very excited about visiting an alpaca farm. Since I started spinning yarn I’ve researched alpacas and bought some alpaca fleece while in Australia last year. But I haven’t had the chance to really see them in person. This tour was perfect! Valerie was so welcoming, knowledgeable and generous with her expertise and her animals. Not only did we get to feed them, we went into many of the enclosures and were able to feel how thick and soft their fleece is. At the end of the tour I was able to purchase some beautiful grey roving and some lovely fawn fleece sheared from alpacas I met! And the location was wonderful. What an awesome sky! We’ll go again next time we come back to Prescott.

This was AMAZING. We arrived a bit early and we were able to jump right into the tour, joining a group who was finishing. The dogs, alpacas, and other animals are all amazing. Sadly it was super windy so some of the alpacas were not in the mood for 'candy' but we still were able to pet a ton of them and feed them! The babies were so cute I almost count not handle it! 10000% recommend.

We were first greeted by the guard dogs and they were extremely friendly. Brian was an exceptional tour guide and gave us a great insight into his alpaca farm. We were able to individually feed the alpacas some treats and capture a few photos of them. However, we do wish we had a little more time taking some selfies or being able to touch them more. The alpacas were very occupied by our treats. This experience overall was memorable and we can't wait to see them again!

This was so much fun!!! You can’t have a bad time with Brian’s alpacas. They are gentle, sweet and always look like they are smiling. Brian was a great storyteller and mixed in facts about the animals with his personal experience in breeding them. He answered all our questions - and I learned so much about the animals. I was also in awe at how deep their fur is. Your hands literally sink in to your wrists. It was a fun and unusual way to spend the day. Highly recommend.
