The company was very accommodating with my late change of dates and time, which was very much appreciated. I thoroughly enjoyed my day out with Mehta and Dimitrius, their knowledge of weaving styles, textiles, yarn, local village and rural areas was truly amazing. The company culture of inclusiveness from the director to the artisan has created a family business. It offers empowerment to women in running their own business from home while still being available to care for their families. Local training is provided over six months and if the woman would like to be part of the company a loom is installed in her home with friendly support if required. My host artisan invited me to her home and provided a cooked lunch. She was more than happy for me to sit in the kitchen and reply to any questions I had. I was encouraged to learn and try the knotting techniques at the loom which my host demonstrated so quickly and easily. I was shown how the loom was operated and told about the various yarns for this rug. At the showroom I was shown the finished rugs which helped with understanding what I’d seen earlier in the day. The employees have a wonderful sense of humor and so friendly. I hope to rerun in 2021 for another tour.

This is an amazing experience. A must do in my opinion. Our guide Dimitrius was knowledgeable not only about the weaving, rug making but about the culture and community. A day I will remember as a true India experience!!!!!

A wonderful morning spent with amazing host Dimitrius and the weavers. Shanti and the women are so lovely and kind, and I was made to feel very welcomed into the community. I learned so much about the weaving process and the organisation, and enjoyed a delicious chai and lunch. A really special and humbling experience. Thank you!

Really cool experience. I think it's really meant for those people interested in buying a rug or carpet, but even though I'm not, it was still a really neat tour. Jaipur Rugs is the group behind it, and they've taken special care to be fair in their employment practices, from wages to education programs. The women I met were able to work with children nearby and take breaks as mom-ing required. The guide explained how much more money these families make as a result, as well as the exciting programs that Jaipur Rugs Foundation offers, like literacy and health programs for the whole village. I hadn't known any of that ahead of time, and it really made me feel like I was supporting a good cause. I got to try my hand at weaving (it's hard, and I'm terrible at it), see the entire weaving process in the village, and then return to Jaipur to see the finished rugs in the showroom. Would have been extra awesome to buy one, and hopefully someday I can. Great tour, all the way around.
