Dette kommer dere til å gjøre
When you arrive here at our smallholding (5 minutes from Kinross), we'll check you're equipped for the weather – which could be anything from glorious sunshine to gales and torrential rain in this part of the world (or even snow, depending on when you come!). We'll then welcome you with tea, coffee, juice or water (you choose!) before giving you a guided tour of our smallholding – during which you'll visit our micro-orchard and feed 'the chocolate sheep' – our little flock of Shetland sheep, who are very partial to brown bread! You'll also learn about the various breeds of sheep farmed here in Scotland, then meet our Highland pony and hear about other native Scottish breeds of horses and ponies. Next, we'll venture on foot into the nearby countryside, and as we walk I'll tell you about the history and landmarks of Kinross-shire, such as Loch Leven (where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned) and the nearby 'Sleeping Giant' hill. Once we're back at the smallholding, there will be a chance to join in with whatever jobs require done – be that drystone walling, repairing a fence, grooming the pony, planting seeds or picking rasps... Enjoy two hours of genuine Scottish country life!
As a writer and linguist who spent the first 18 years of her life on a Scottish farm, I am passionate about the Scottish countryside. My husband Alister (aka HunterGatherer in my Square Sparrow blog about our rural life!) grew up on a farm on the Isle of Mull, and we both love sharing our knowledge of the wonderful natural landscapes around our 5-acre smallholding near Kinross (45 mins from Edinburgh). We share our lives with a Highland pony and a dozen colourful Shetland sheep (the 'chocolate sheep'). We also grow as much of our own food as we can in our ancient polytunnel and large garden!

Her skal du være
We'll start by touring our smallholding in the Scottish countryside, with stunning views over the Ochils and Loch Leven in the distance, and will then walk along (and back!) a nearby country track that I visit almost every day. It is flanked by trees and is so different each time. Some days I see swans flying over head, other days a red deer; in spring and summer it is leafy and green; in autumn it is golden; in winter the frost changes it again.
