Om organisasjonen: Invisible Cities

Invisible Cities is a social enterprise that trains people who have experienced homelessness to become walking tour guides of their own city. We offer alternative tours of Edinburgh, all focused on what our guides are passionate about! We use 100% of our profits for the development of our guides or to give back to the community.

Dette er en ideell opplevelse der 100 % av det du betaler for denne opplevelsen går til Invisible Cities.

Her skal du være

You will start at the Newkirkgate (by Queen Victoria's statue) and will hear stories of the foot of Leith walk, which inspired many scenes of Trainspotting. You will go through the "Banana flats" to finish in the shore, at a hub for social enterprise and social innovation.

It was really a very good guided tour. We really get to know Leith (and Edinburough as well.) Very personal, very dedicated. For all people that don't like mainstream tours recommended.

I would suggest this tour to everybody. Paul is a great Storyteller and the tour was so intresting. Paul show where the movie was filmed , what’s behind the scenes, the places , the people and the facts in a very original and intresting way (Paul is very fun too ) . In the meanwhile he talks about the history of Leith and the real life of local common people, so to explane the socio-economic context in wich you are and where the movie was born . Great tour ! Paul number one!

Paul was our guide. He was a great storyteller and tied the parts of the stories into the locations with photos or readings from the books. Paul was energetic and enthusiastic, and didn’t just present the tour but actually engaged conversation in a thoughtful way.

Paul was a really engaging, entertaining and knowledgeable host. He packed a huge amount of facts, ideas and shared experience into the tour. We had quite a long wait for a no-show participant at the beginning (offset by some ‘extra time’ at the end), but he put the time to good use with lots of interesting information. We had very lively, wide-ranging conversations during the course of the tour, and Paul gave considered, cogent responses to all my questions. He also interspersed the information he was providing with appropriate passages from the Trainspotting books, which he brought alive in performance, as well as quoting a rather moving poem from a homeless poet who turned his life around after an act of kindness. I came away feeling culturally and socially enriched by the wealth of local history I had absorbed and the personal interaction with such a dynamic member of the local community.

Amazing experience with a true original. Paul is entirely adept in his subject and brings to life Scotland, Leith and the wider socio-political context as well as having a great sense of humour.

A great way to spend an afternoon walking around Leith with a person who has spent time there and seen the massive transformations taking place there, using Trainspotting as a touch point. Who would have seen that film as such a “moment in time” anthropological film? Recommended.
