Discover Cork's whiskey history, conviviality and tradition!

Cork Whiskey Walk is a half-day tour (4 hours) that will give you a great insight into Irish history, Cork's vibrant culture and local food and drink. Introducing a history that you can actually taste and feel, we start our journey in Cork's first microbrewery, the Franciscan Well, to enjoy wood-fired pizza's and a Jameson Caskmates craft beer & whiskey pairing.

From there we will go back in time, starting at the site of a historic Leeside distillery first founded in 1779, to learn about pious Gaelic chieftains, rebel Cork chancers, wealthy Merchant Princes, miserly old distillers and the unique history and craft of traditional Irish Pot Still whiskey. We then meander paths less traveled, to experience Cork from a different perspective.

Further stops, amidst the moody surroundings of hard-to-find Georgian and Victorian era establishments, provide the ideal atmospheres in which to immerse ourselves in local banter, fascinating Cork stories and a curated selection of craft beers, food and whiskeys.

Born and reared in Cork city, I work as a Stillman in a local whiskey distillery. As co-founder of Cork Whiskey Society and feature writer for Irish Whiskey magazine, I love sharing my passion for Corkonian food and drink (especially whiskey).
Over the course of four hours, I'll share fascinating stories that breathe renewed life into crumbling Leeside buildings, forgotten medieval alleyways and interesting historical characters. By sampling locally crafted beer, food and whiskeys, we'll eat and drink our way through the history of the Rebel county!

Her skal du være

The Franciscan Well led the way for the craft brewers of Ireland and was the birthplace for the latest Irish whiskey brand to excite the world.

The hard-to-find Georgian & Victorian-era taverns selected as stops on my route will remain a secret to us locals - unless you become a local for the day by joining me on Cork Whiskey Walk! A window to the past, few genuinely traditional establishments, such as these, have managed to survive intact.

We absolutely loved this experience! Eric is a real expert on whiskey, working for Jameson and writing for a whiskey magazine. He has a real passion for whiskey and its history in Cork, and in Ireland overall. The walk was leisurely but took us to several great places that we would never have found on our own. We revisited two of the places the next day for more amazing food and drink. We even made friends with one of the bartenders, who recognized us from our visit the day before with Eric. The tour, and Eric's presence, really gave us a sense of place. We felt very welcome. And a big thank you to Eric for booking this tour especially for us. We could only go on one date that he had no public tours listed. I contacted Eric, and he set up a tour just for us. On the day, he had his arm in a sling and was getting over a cold, but still showed up just for us! Just, wow. Five stars is not enough for that. :)

The perfect tour for whiskey/history lovers. This was a highlight of my family's trip to Ireland. Even my mother, who is not a big whiskey drinker, polished off her pours and greatly enjoyed herself! We had a wonderful time with Eric. I've never met someone with more whiskey knowledge than he. I appreciated how he wove in plenty of interesting history about Cork. It's clear he is passionate about his home and about whiskey. His passion really shows in the care he takes on this tour. 10/10!

Eric is a very personable individual who can tell a story or relive an experience in such a way as the listener feels as though they are part of the story. I would highly recommend anyone who has an interest in the City of Cork or a desire to learn a bit of the behind the scenes at a distillery to contact Eric for an afternoon that remarkably pleasant.

Eric is a local Cork distiller who runs Cork Whiskey Walk. He has a vast knowledge of whiskey in to which he weaves local and broader Irish history and their connections to Cork and Whiskey. He is funny and has an easy going approach to the tour. His level of knowledge and presentation comes easily and he answered all the questions our tour group had. He took us to many places we would have never found on our own. There is a great pace to all the stops and they are balanced nicely over the time of the tour. Eric clearly has many relationships with other people in the Cork community and that also shines through. Eric makes learning about Whiskey approachable for new people. Don’t pass up a chance to meet Eric and do this tour. Could not recommend more highly.

Highly recommend - great experience! Eric was an awesome host of the whiskey walk. I enjoyed his stories and knowledge at each pub we went to. I enjoyed that that each place we went to was a little different, and places I might not have choose for myself. If you have the opportunity, do this walk!

This was a great experience. Eric is super knowledgeable, and is a very nice, welcoming guide. In addition to learning all kinds of interesting stuff about the history of whiskey in Ireland, he tied it into the history of Cork and Ireland, and shared insight into how culture, politics, and religion all played parts in the story of Irish whiskey, and vice versa. we ate some nice food and tasted some delicious stout as well. This is a great thing to do in Cork.
