A connoisseur with more than a decade in the tea and coffee industry.

Aside being used to be the speaker (in Chinese & Japanese Tea) in one of Indonesia's renowned universities for Cultural Studies, I am also educating and hosting people with tea in Old Town Jakarta. (Under Old Town Community I created)

As tea and coffee have been parts of my life, supported by Asian cultures I grew up with, I would like to share the experiences with people.

Jo's tea shop is an oasis of tranquility in the middle of Jakarta. He's extremely knowledgeable, very considerate of guests' preferences, and easy to talk to. I drink a lot of Chinese and Japanese tea already, but enjoyed learning to brew tea in the gong fu style and learning about Indonesian tea and coffee–I'm not normally a coffee drinker, but I would definitely drink the one he picked for me black! I also loved hearing about and trying his own personal tea blends and chatting about different ways to incorporate tea into food. This will definitely be one of the highlights of my time in Jakarta.

Jo's rich understanding and passion for tea and coffee is pretty extraordinary. Such a cool and unique opportunity that I highly recommend to any tea drinker, even casual ones. I left with a much better understanding of how to brew different kinds of tea, and was happy to learn a lot about Indonesian politics as we chatted!

Amazing experience! Jo is very kind, helpful, social and open. We didn’t only learn a lot about tea, but also the Indonesian culture. We arrived half an hour late because we couldn’t find the location, but Jo waited to start until we arrived and even went looking for us on the street! We highly recommend this experience for anyone who likes tea!!! 10/10

Jo is a great host with deep understanding of tea. Also, his tea shop is hidden in a small alley that I can’t never find it on my own, it was like a secret tea heavy for tea lovers. From his tea and tea pot collections, you can see roughly how much time and efforts he’ve spent. I learned so much Indonesia tea culture from him, not only by testing from his tea collection but also by him sharing the history of Java tea. Recommended!

Jo was an exceptional host in every way. We ended up staying in his shop longer than expected due to the rainy day, but Jo made every moment worth it. He not only imparted his deep knowledge out tea and coffee in all respects, but once he saw we were hooked he let us try all types of varieties. He even ordered us some food, which went way beyond our expectations. This is a wonderful way to spend a few hours in Jakarta. We highly recommend the experience.
