Learn the art of wagashi with a certified instructor

We will start off this experience by learning about the ingredients (This is a Vegan Class). Then we will go on to learning the various sweets:

1. Making mochi (rice cakes) using glutinous rice flour. You will learn how to make strawberry daifuku mochi.
2. Making your own dango (mochi balls on skewers) by mixing water with two kinds of rice flour, sugar and water and coloring it.
3. Making two kinds of seasonal "nerikiri wagashi"—traditional Japanese sweets. We'll start off with the dough making then you will color and shape the dough into a seasonal motif.
4. Finally, you will taste your creations with a bowl of matcha green tea that you will learn how to make. If you cannot finish the sweets you can take them with you in a box.

If you are the first one to book this class, you can also request a Wagashi only Class (4 kinds of nerikiri wagashi) or Mochi Only Class (Strawberry* Daifuku + Namayatuhashi (Cinnamon mochi) + Dango + Ice cream Mochi)

You will be notified if the class if it is a Wagashi Only Class or a Mochi Only Class at the time of booking.

*Other fruits may be used in case strawberries are not available.

We'll be at Simply Oishii Japanese Cooking Class located in central Tokyo. Just a short distance from Shibuya and Shinjuku with easy access to major tourist attractions, it will be a great place to enjoy your day in Tokyo.

We had a wonderful morning cooking with Miyuki! We were able to make a number of different desserts and the class was very hands on, definitely one of the best cooking classes we have ever been to. We were also given a recipe booklet to take with us, and our friends and family are very excited for us to make mochi/wagashi for them at home. Miyuki’s apartment is beautiful, and it was lovely to sip some matcha and eat our creations with her views of the city in the background.

Miyuki's class was incredibly professional and fun. It was a pleasure coming to her lovely home, learning about the methods and traditions of mochi-making, and feeling a sense of accomplishment when we finished our array of mochi and wagashi. Highly recommend this experience!

My daughter and I really enjoyed this Mochi and Wagashi cooking class with Miyuki at her home, while we were in Tokyo. It was on a rainy day, that’s even better to have the indoor activity:-)) We leaned how to prepare the beautiful Japanese sweets using special materials/ingredients and techniques/instruments, in about 2.5 hours. Miyuki was very communicative and patient, her English is excellent! We would recommend this experiment for your stay in Tokyo, which makes your trip memorable and special!

Miyuki was great! She was knowledgeable on the history of mochi and wagashi, she had very tasty recipes and it was fun learning how to make these treats even if I ended up shaping mine a little odd at times! She was very helpful and spoke English very well. I would absolutely recommend this course or any of her courses to anyone.
