In this AirBnB Experience you will get to know Inverness in a new light. We will meet at Falcon Square, right in the centre of the city and will jump straight into two hours of stories of the Highlands. The tour will include all the information you might expect from a classic walking tour and just so much more.

Story-telling has always been important for communities, we already see evidence of that in the iron ages. You might have heard of Inverness' connection to Shakespeare's Macbeth, however, there are so many more stories that need telling.

From Falcon Square onwards it will be short walks from one Inverness sight to the next, in between which I will tell you where the name Inverness originates from, teach you a couple of words of Gaelic and tell the stories worth telling. The tour is constructed in a way that there will be no long and silent walks. Instead we will stop every couple of minutes at places that are either a must-see or just a personal favourite of mine. You will fall in love with the Victorian Market dog, see Macbeth in a new light and be surprised by the prophecies of the Brahan Seer.

We will end at Falcon Square from where I can show you to great places for a dram of Whisky, or some lunch or afternoon tea (price for food not included in tour). I can't wait to meet you!

Message me if you would like another time or to take the tour in German.

I am a German lass who lost her heart in and to the Highlands. I came to study the people and the culture and never left. I have put down roots and want others to feel as welcomed by Scotland as I was.

Literature, culture, and conversations with different people are my passions. By offering AirBnB Experiences I am able to connect visitors to the place I lost my heart to. Now I want to share my knowledge about the city I love. I want to show you my favourite places to experience history!

I will share my knowledge and passion on myths, legends, stories, and prophecies. As a literary historian with a focus on the Highlands currently workng on my Ph.D. I am an expert on Scottish history.

We will walk around the inner city centre of Inverness. The walking part of the tour is about 2,5km (c. 1,6 miles) depending on how the group works together and how everyone is feeling about the walking.

There will only be a little uphill walking to get to Inverness Castle. Some steps might be along the way, but if there are any difficulties with steps, we can take another way.

Tl;dr we loved this tour and would highly recommend it for the high level of personalization and great stories! Our group of 8 booked last-minute with Alex and she made space for a private tour on Saturday. The tour itself was great and exceeded our expectations: Alex looked up Scottish clan information for those of us with Scottish backgrounds and did research in advance for our questions about the Highland clearances, Outlander, and Walter Scott. She had some fascinating stories about Inverness that we definitely didn't find going through the local museum and Culloden Battlefield. She was friendly, easy to get along with, and built rapport with our group instantly. She also gave us some great recommendations for our day in town before the tour when we were looking for things to do. All in all, I would highly recommend any of Alex's tours, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Our only regret is that we had to cut our tour short by half an hour to drive to our next stop on time. An hour and a half felt short and we would have really enjoyed the full two-hour experience. A note on accessibility: we took my 80+ grandparents along and they had no trouble walking the short, mostly flat route. Alex doesn't take you on long, winding routes, and there were plenty of stops as well as places to sit. A fine tour for more elderly people.

This was a fantastic tour that far exceeded our expectations. Alexandra brought the city alive with her anecdotes and stories. She has an eye for all the interesting details around the city and even had props to bring the history alive. A varied tour with just the right amount of walking. Alexandra was good fun and friendly and I would highly recommend her experience.

Alex is the most wonderful host for a tour around Inverness. If you’re like me and were thinking ‘eurgh, I hate walking!’ then fear not - there’s only one hill! I brought my dog on the tour so it’s dog friendly. Alex is like human Google, her knowledge on Inverness and its history is absolutely unrivalled. There are a few surprises along the way which I won’t give away, but safe to say that the tour surpassed all my expectations. It was super casual yet I still came away feeling like I could take on a round with Inverness as the topic on Mastermind. There were parts that were actually quite emotional and Alex has a way of telling you the history so you feel like you were actually there witnessing it happening. There are also parts which she tailors to the group (again, I don’t want to ruin the surprise) so it’s very personalised depending on the dynamic of the group. I came away thinking I should have paid a lot more for the tour and so you’re definitely going to get value for money. If you’re in Inverness, you’ve got to book this tour or you’ll be missing out - it really enhanced my trip and left me longing to return so I could come back and revisit some of the places Alex took us (including a complete surprise place where you could spend hours and it still wouldn’t be long enough! I won’t ruin the surprise but when you get there, you’ll know!).

Alexandra was very friendly, knowledgeable and an excellent story teller. She personalizes the tour and makes you feel very comfortable about asking questions. She takes her time and you never feel rushed. Thank you for taking the time to accommodate our family and giving us a taste of Inverness.

We had an amazing day with Alex! Her tour was concise but detailed, with lots of interesting facts and sites which we would have missed if we were walking around the city on our own. She was incredibly friendly, and along with her boyfriend, she talked about the history of the city, the best places to see and visit, the legacy of past battles and much more. All in all, the tour was super enjoyable and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes seeing the hidden wonders of the city and the historic value of the area.

Alexandra was bubbly and friendly throughout the whole tour. It was 2 hours well spent and gave us a great insight into the history of Inverness as well as showing us how the modern city sits alongside it. Alex was always happy to answer questions and made the tour a friendly walk and a chat rather then a tour guide leading customers. Alex also recommended a great unique pizza restaurant to feed my hungry teenage sons at the end. 100% recommend by myself, my husband AND my teenage sons!
